Federal High Court Grants Recall Process Of Senator Natasha
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was prevented from receiving the recall process initiated by Kogi Central Senatorial District residents against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja Kogi State capital.
In a landmark decision made on Friday in Lokoja, the Federal High Court affirms that the recall procedure is legitimate under the terms of the Constitution and respects the rights of the electorates.
The court urged the people who lived there to continue exercising their rights in a calm and orderly manner.
The development came after the court on Thursday granted an interim injunction to stop INEC, its staff, agents, employees, and agents from accepting or acting on any petition containing signatures from Kogi Central Senatorial District members.
In order to initiate a re-call process for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the court also ordered INEC to refrain from holding a referendum on the petition pending the outcome of the Motion on Notice.
Following an ex-parte request for interim support, the court granted the request, along with other court procedures that Anebe Jacob Ogirima sworn to for himself and four others who are registered voters and Kogi Central Senatorial District residents.
