For their upcoming match against Japan, Jacob Fearnley has received his first call-up to the British Davis Cup squad.

Scot Fearnley, 23, was ranked outside the top 600 a year ago, but he won his first four ATP Challenger titles in 2024 to rise up to 86th in the world rankings.

Great Britain captain Leon Smith has also chosen Cameron Norrie, Billy Harris, and former Wimbledon doubles champion Neal Skupski.

Jack Draper, the British number one, has chosen to skip the first-round qualifier to help with his recovery from a hip injury.

Dan Evans, who claimed his country lost to Canada in the finals of September, should not be playing in the Davis Cup. He said he was considering “long and hard” about ending his career there.

Evans, 34, has played in 28 Davis Cup matches and was a substitute when they won their final title in 2015. However, he has fallen to 160th in the world and was eliminated from Australian Open qualifying in the first round.

The Bourbon Beans Dome in Miki will host the best-of-five tie between Japan and Japan on January 31 and February 1.
