FCT Police rescue woman from fleeing suspected robber, ritualist, manhunt launched

A suspected armed robber and ritualist were successfully rescued from a young woman, according to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, prompting an immediate manhunt for the suspect.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement sent to Persecondnews on Sunday that the command received a distress call on January 31, 2025, at around 11: 30 am from a hotel in the Wuse area, reporting suspicious activity in one of its rooms.

According to Adeh, police operatives swiftly arrived at the scene, where they discovered a 25-year-old woman, Promise Eze, from Ebonyi State, tied to a small chair with her mouth sealed with plaster.

Officers immediately freed the victim and rushed her to Wuse District Hospital, where she received prompt medical attention and was soon revived after she was discovered unconscious and clearly distressed.

Adeh continued, “Preliminary investigations revealed a disturbing pattern of deception and violence. On January 30, 2025, the victim was in the hotel with a man who identified himself as Emmanuel Okoro from Lagos State and checked in at around 7:00 AM.

” However, during police questioning, the victim disclosed that she had met the suspect online, where he introduced himself under the alias Michael Prince, claiming to be an oil company employee based in Delta State.

“Initially, he invited her to Delta, but after she declined, they agreed to meet in Abuja. Tragically, what was meant to be an innocent meeting turned into a harrowing ordeal.

The suspect allegedly used a dagger to threaten and subdue the victim before restraining her by tying her hands and legs to the victim and keeping her mouth shut in the bathroom. He then fled the scene, stealing her two mobile phones.

The victim overheard him talking to suspected accomplices over the phone, telling them he was about to regroup before going back to the hotel to finish the job, according to the alarm.

The command has launched a massive manhunt to find the suspect, Adeh said, with officers working around the clock to ensure his swift arrest and prosecution.

The statement added:” The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, has strongly denounced this brutal act, warning residents, particularly young women, to exercise extreme vigilance when interacting with strangers or individuals they have not personally verified.

The CP reassures the public that FCT Police Command will continue to work with unwavering efforts to protect all residents’ safety.
