Ex-England midfielder Dele signs 18-month Como deal
Dele Alli, a former England international, has signed for Como in Italy.
The 28-year-old has signed an initial 18-month contract with an option based on appearances for a further season and has trained with the Serie A side for the past month.
Dele hasn’t played for a club since leaving Everton in June, but he continued to train under then-manager Sean Dyche before joining Como on trial.
Since joining Turkish side Besiktas on loan in February 2023, the former MK Dons and Tottenham player has not played.
Cesc Fabregas, the Como head coach, stated, “The club believes in Dele’s potential and is committed to helping him rediscover his best form.”
“The squad will undoubtedly benefit from his experience and leadership skills,” he declared.
Dele revealed that he was sexually abused at the age of six and that he was eight years old when he first dealt drugs to Gary Neville in an emotional interview in July 2023. He also admitted to drinking alcohol and taking sleeping pills throughout his career, but he also emphasized that he wanted to play again after receiving support for his off-field issues.
Como stated that the goal is to gradually introduce Dele into the squad while keeping him in mind.
The club is confident that he will contribute significantly to the club’s young talents both on the pitch and as a mentor. “There will be no immediate performance expectations.
Como made a comeback to the top of Italy last summer for the first time in nearly 50 years.
