Ex-Bangladesh captain Tamim in hospital after cardiac arrest

Tamim Iqbal, the former Bangladeshi captain, suffered a cardiac arrest while playing a domestic T20 match in Dhaka, and is now “under close observation” in a hospital.
The 36-year-old opener, who played for Mohammedan Sporting Club on Monday and played for Bangladesh 391 times between 2007 and 2023, was there.
After taking the field for their Dhaka Premier League match against Shinepukur, Tamim, Bangladesh’s record run-scorer in one-day internationals, complained of chest pains.
Due to his worsening health, plans to take him by helicopter were abandoned, and he was instead taken to a nearby hospital, the KPJ Specialized Hospital, for immediate treatment.
Tamim received “immediate emergency medical treatment” and a “successful angiogram procedure to address a heart-related blockage.”
The hospital’s coronary care unit is currently monitoring him closely, the statement continued.
Tamim also had a spell with Essex in 2017, and she was only the second Bangladeshi to play county cricket in England after Nottinghamshire in 2011.
Only one Bangladeshi batter has ever recorded centuries in all three international competitions.
Faruque Ahmed, president of the BCB, expressed his gratitude to all the doctors and specialists for their prompt actions in this critical situation.
