Even Salah would struggle at Spurs – Postecoglou
Even Mohamed Salah, who is currently in excellent form at Liverpool, would struggle in the Tottenham team, according to Ange Postecoglou.
In the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, Spurs will take on the Reds on Wednesday (20:00 GMT), a difficult start to their form.
Tottenham have drawn three of their previous four games, including the 6-3 defeat by Liverpool in the Premier League on December 22.
Salah, an international from Egypt, has 21 goals in 27 games played in total during a visually stunning campaign and scored twice in that game.
However, under-pressure Postecoglou believes even having an “unbelievable player” in Salah at his disposal would have done little to improve their fortunes.
The Spurs manager claimed that Mo is a world-class player, but that is unlikely to cause him to exhibit that same level of performance if he is currently playing for our team.
“His attacking play, who do you need? You need a team that’s kind of in good form, creating opportunities, playing on the front foot, having a really solid foundation of a defence that is cohesive. At this time, nothing like this exists.
Son Heung-min, the club’s captain, has been given the news that Spurs will have the option to leave the club until at least the summer of 2026 before the start of the game against Arne Slot’s side.
Son has scored 169 times in 431 Spurs appearances, including seven goals in all competitions this season.
Postecoglou felt that Salah, a 32-year-old, and the South Korean’s form do not accurately reflect their respective abilities.
“You’ve always got to give context. He]Salah] is playing in a fantastic team that are flying at the moment”, he explained.
“I’d hazard to say that if you put Son Heung-min in Liverpool’s team, I reckon his goalscoring return would be decent. Our current players are working very hard to be the best they can be, which is challenging.
