Eva Longoria, the Desperate Housewives star, has expressed her surprise and excitement at becoming part of Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham’s football empire.
The 49 year old actress is among a group of investors, including Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, MLB star Justin Verlander, and NBA legend Shawn Marion, who have purchased Columbian football club La Equidad.
The high stakes on the pitch serve as a powerful narrative generator, according to Longoria, who is thrilled by the drama and storytelling potential of football. Speaking to The Athletic, she said: “I feel like sports is entertainment. Because of the high stakes, soccer is a powerful tool for storytelling.

“The drama of winning and losing, injuries, firing a coach, bringing in a new player — the excitement is built-in drama. You couldn’t possibly write this. I was like, ‘ Wow, this is this is the biggest soap opera I’ve ever seen’. Every player has a story. Every team has a story. Every town has a story”.
The Tylis-Porter group, which purchased a 50% stake in Mexican side Club Necaxa in 2021, and McElhenney and Reynolds did so last year, as part of the investment team.
This led to the Tylis-Porter group also taking a minor stake in Wrexham. McElhenney maintains that all three clubs – Necaxa, Wrexham, and La Equidad – each have their own unique appeal and compelling stories, and he believes the rich history of these teams, coupled with the globalisation of football, can contribute to their success.

Meanwhile, Longoria has likened following the matches to a full-time job. She admitted that, depending on the outcome, she frequently texts the club captain and coach to express her appreciation or sympathize with them.
In addition, Reynolds and McElhenney have recently revealed plans for a brand new 5, 500-capacity Kop stand at Wrexham’s stadium.
Since Rob McElhenney and Richard Reynolds purchased Wrexham in 2020, Reynolds may be the most well-known and devoted football owner on the planet. The former National League side has also had two consecutive promotions into League One as a result of their premiership, which includes the wildly popular docu-series “Welcome to Wrexham.”
The Red Dragons are currently on a run-off spot where they could advance to the Championship. Reynolds is reportedly planning to invest in Equidad, who are currently 13th in Colombia’s Categoria Primera A division, while Wales’ oldest club is currently riding a Hollywood wave.
