There is no way for Phillipe Clement to consider his future, despite the club’s fans’ claims that he is not taking his place and that the Rangers’ board hasn’t “jerked” their manager. However, Sunday’s ignominious home defeat by Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup leaves the Ibrox club with doubts.

One of the worst defeats in their history and one of the biggest cup shocks, Rangers have lost to a team outside of Scotland’s top flight for the first time at home.

Rangers are likely to go another season without a domestic trophy thanks to Seb Drozd’s 69th-minute strike for their Glasgow rivals, which is combined with Celtic’s 13-point lead in the premiership.

Clement himself acknowledged that the players had lost all of the goodwill they had accumulated from the recent improvements to their standing that had allowed them to reach the knockout stages and top-eight Europe League positions.

Andrew: One of the most humiliating defeats in my lifetime. Right away, changes must be made.

Anon: Absolute embarrassment. Since Philippe Clement arrived, we have regressed. The players will make the same excuses for letting us down once more, and they will make the same ones. Steven Gerrard has since been let go because of the board’s inability to support him. This just can’t go on. All our history gone and it’s all down to the board, management and these players.

Robert: This defeat is up there as one of the worst results in Rangers ‘ history. It really sums up our season in one game. Performances have been dreadful. Complacency set in yesterday. The team believed that they were all required to show up. Clement’s ability to survive this is beyond me. Terrible to watch. Keep possession but refrain from using it.

Andrew: Rangers lack a genuine leader and a classy player with the ability to transform the game. Their play lacks pace and is predictable. Teams do try harder against Rangers, but this should be seen as a motivation, not an excuse.

Billy: For the first time, it’s time for Clement to go. Any Rangers team should have been victorious in that encounter. Reuniting Stevie G

Eric: If Ridvan Yilmaz, a left-back, is our best option when we are a goal down, we are in serious trouble. Never mind the goals, he can’t hold the ball in the stand for very long when he has a shot. This morning, Ross McCausland should be slapping his transfer request first.

Gail: There is really something not right at Ibrox. We have the players and manager, but I feel there’s dark goings on. I worry that we are heading in the wrong direction because we continue to have financial issues.

Kevin: Spineless, lazy, arrogant players who think just turn up and we will walk this game. The manager isn’t good enough. Fans are constantly looking for solutions. Have a clear-out, starting with the useless, clueless manager and his bunch of clowns.

If the board cares about the fans, Clement must leave. The club is going backwards. Even the support of the Union Bears, who insult the club with their disrespectful behavior, needs to ban them from a few games for the sake of decent, well-behaved fans.

Anon: No disrespect to Queen’s Park, but Rangers were woeful. Philippe Clement resurrended the Rangers’ belief system. But, sadly, he and the team have been found wanting. Poor, pitifully poor, performance. Maybe he should consider his contract.
