Eight Injured, Properties Worth Millions Destroyed In Kwara Fire Incident

A fire incident at a gas station close to the student hostel resulted in the injuries of seven students at the Kwara State Polytechnic’s Ilorin campus in varying degrees.

A gas attendant was also involved in the late-Saturday fire incident at Destiny Villa, Dola Abinbola Street, Elekoyangan neighborhood of the state’s Ilorin East local government.

The State Fire Service’s Director, Prince Falade John, and its Head of Department (HOD) Media and Publicity, Hakeem Adekunle, explained that the fire started while a gas attendant was refueling one of the nearby gas cylinders that was several meters above ground level.

“The charged hose used for refilling was released gas as the cylinder fell and exploded.” Seven Kwara State Polytechnic students and the gas attendant were hurt as a result of the fire’s escalation, he claimed.

“The firemen quickly left the station and arrived at the scene to find a building with about 17 self-contained rooms completely on fire.” Eight people were hurt, and four rooms were impacted.

According to the fireman, the estimated value of all properties lost was N14.6 million, while it was estimated to be N722.2 million.
