In his first match since taking home the Indian Wells title, British No. 1 Jack Draper lost to Jakub Mensik in straight sets at the Miami Open.

The 23-year-old was defeated by his Czech opponent in the second round 7-6 (7-6) 7-6 (7-3) to place seventh in his career.

The 19-year-old scored at 3-3 in the opening game of the match, but Draper made a strong start, breaking Mensik with 3-3.

When it was revealed that Brazilian Joao Fonseca’s match against France’s Ugo Humbert, scheduled for next, had been moved to the main court, there were angry scenes in the second set.

As they departed their seats and made their way to the other court, where their favorite defeated Humbert 6-4 6-3, the Brazilian fans booed as they waited for hours, some of whom had been watching for hours.

Draper, who had a 4-3 lead, made an attempt to restart the game but was denied by the umpire due to the jeers.

After suffering a crushing straight-set defeat by Alexander Zverev, British number three Jacob Fearnley, 23, also advanced.

The German, who also defeated the Scot in straight sets at the Australian Open, only needed one hour, 14 minutes to complete the 6-2, 6-4 victory.

When the ATP rankings are updated after Miami, Fearnley will leapfrog Draper to take the top spot in the country ahead of Cameron Norrie.

Coleman Wong, age 20, of Hong Kong, defeated American world number 14 Ben Shelton 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 7-6 (7-5) to claim his first top-20 victory of his career.
