Djokovic unsure of Australian Open return
Australian Open 2025
Date: 23 January Venue: Melbourne Park
Novak Djokovic says he will compete in the Australian Open next year if he stays “fit, healthy, and motivated.”
The 37-year-old Serb, aiming for a record-extending 11th men’s singles title, retired injured from his semi-final against Alexander Zverev on Friday.
As he left Rod Laver Arena, which he has frequently called his “second home,” he raised both thumbs in the air toward the 15, 000 fans.
Djokovic inquired about making his final appearance at Melbourne Park. “I don’t know. There is a chance. Who knows? Just need to wait and see how the season turns out.
” I want to keep going. However, I’m not sure if my schedule will be revised for the following year.
Djokovic has lost in the Melbourne semi-finals for the second time in a row.
In recent years, Djokovic has cut back on his schedule and prioritized getting ready for the four Grand Slams.
The former world number one continues to seek a 25th Slam to move clear of Australia’s Margaret Court, who won 24 women’s singles titles between 1960 and 1973.
Djokovic has won seven titles at Wimbledon, where he has most of his Grand Slam victories, and the Australian Open, where he has most of his success.
Additionally, he has won four US Open titles and three French Open titles.
Seventh seed Djokovic continued, “I normally like to come to Australia to play.”
The highlight of my career here is that I have been successful. So if I’m fit, healthy, motivated, I don’t see a reason why I wouldn’t come.
Djokovic will ‘ chat ‘ to Murray about future
Andy Murray, a long-time tennis player, has coached Djokovic, who claims he is still unsure whether the trial partnership will continue.
Murray, also 37, retired in August last year and joined Djokovic’s team in November.
“We are both disappointed with what just happened, so we didn’t talk about the future”, Djokovic said.
“I’ll definitely talk to Andy and thank him for coming with me.”
