As a result of her fourth place finish at the World Indoor Athletics Championships, Great Britain’s Molly Caudery was unable to defend her women’s pole vault title.

Caudery won his first global title in Glasgow 12 months ago, but he suffered agonizing defeat in Nanjing, China, to finish third.

With a season best of 4.85m, Caudery, who had a best of 4.85m, fell short of a medal on countback after failing to clear 4.75m in a competition that was hampered by technical issues.

Due to a technical glitch that raises the bar, the competition was delayed by about 40 minutes.

Despite appearing to be of sufficient height, Caudery attempted to go over 4.70m once it had finished, but she was unable to avoid falling back in her attempts at 4.75m.

I wanted to go back to this place after last year and do something, but I’m disappointed, Caudery told BBC Sport.

“But that competition was very difficult. There were numerous issues, and we were even waiting for nearly an hour.

I’m not blaming myself too much. I believe I made three strong attempts to clear that next bar, so I’m not saying that I couldn’t have.

After that, I feel a little flat, to be honest.

Despite entering Paris 2024 as one of the favorites following a breakthrough season in which she broke Holly Bradshaw’s national record with a vault over 4.92m, Caudery failed to make it to the Olympic final last summer.

Caudery made a promising start to 2025 by clearing 4.85m in February, eager to use that disappointment to fuel a quest for more major titles.
