Death in Paradise star joins Doctor Who for new series in mysterious role

For a new episode of Doctor Who that will premiere next month, a Death in Paradise and Slow Horses star will team up with Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu in the Whoniverse.
Kadiff Kirwan is the latest actor to join the cast of Doctor Who for the new series beginning next month. The 36 year old actor, who played Aaron in Chewing Gum, Henri Dupre in a 2020 episode of Death In Paradise, and is Marcus in Slow Horses, will be joining Doctor Who stars Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu in a new adventure.
His role is currently a secret, but Kadiff has revealed a little of what to expect. “I feel elated to be joining the rich legacy of actors who have guest-starred in Doctor Who,” he said. “Russell T Davies and [writer] Juno Dawson have truly outdone themselves with this episode in what I can only describe as an intergalactic gargantuan extravaganza.”
Being a part of it is an absolute dream because it is full of gravity-defying mastery beyond imagination. This song is going to rock your world, “Strap in Whovians”!
Russell T Davies, the showrunner, continued, “We’re so fortunate in Cardiff to welcome world-class talent, and it’s been a riot working with Kadiff. It’s been a truly wonderful day in the office because I’ve loved his TV and stage work for a long time.
The new series of Doctor Who will be the second to feature Ncuti Gatwa as the fifteenth Doctor, and it begins on 12 April.
Kadiff isn’t the only star to be announced for the new episodes, as it was revealed earlier this month that TV presenter Rylan Clark had landed a guest role for himself as the host of an outer space version of Eurovision called Interstellar Song Contest in one episode.
Rylan, part of the BBC’s regular presenting team for Eurovision, said: “As a massive Whovian, getting the call to be in Doctor Who was a call I’ve always dreamed of getting. The episode is all my favourite things about the show with an added song contest set in space.”
It is actually a dream come true. I’m eager to see it in everyone’s eyes. It will be beyond any imagination.
Author Juno Dawson wrote the episode to tie-in with this year’s real Eurovision Song Contest, and said: “It’s the most ridiculous episode they’ve ever done – and the most expensive.”
She continued, “I need to write the Doctor.” The show’s imagination is limitless, in all. The best show ever produced, in my opinion. Just wait, please. This is a mahoosive episode.
Other stand-ins this season include Alan Cumming, French actress Julie Dray, and Kadiff’s Slow Horses co-star Christopher Chung, who plays Roddy Ho in the hit spy drama Mr. Ring-a-Ding.
Anita Dobson, who recently made a surprise return to EastEnders for the 40th anniversary, is back as Mrs Flood, and Jemma Redgrave will also return as UNIT chief Kate Lethbridge-Stewart.
