Danny Jones, the I’m A Celeb winner, says he is happy that viewers can see the real him.
Danny, a McFly singer, was declared the King of the Jungle last month after surviving three weeks in the country. And he was elated over viewers ‘ reactions. Danny, 38, said: “It was just me and my personality at my worst, when I was hungry and tired. It was incredibly important to realize that you were loved for who you were. I’ve been protected by ‘ Danny from McFly ‘ as a character, but that’s not the person who goes home and is vulnerable”.
He added: “What you saw on I’m A Celebrity is the real me. I wasn’t protected by my vocals or my guitar. When I won, I thought, ‘ Ah, people understand me’. It was liberating… very empowering”.
Danny, who will embark on a McBusted tour later this year where McFly and Busted will compete, has also been given new opportunities thanks to the ITV reality show. He said: “I was meant to take some time off. I thought, ‘ I’ll just chill out. I’ve got a sold-out tour, nothing to promote… that’s great’. But no, ITV had other ideas. I’ll talk to them and see what I can do. I want to have fun on TV, maybe presenting. I like to be with people”.
Danny, the father-of-one, admits it has taken him a while to find his TV comfort zone. He has also been a coach on The Voice Kids since it first aired in 2017. He said: “I used to be scared of live TV. I’d think, ‘ Ooh, I’d better not say the wrong thing’, and was always reliant on my band to talk. But after The Voice Kids, I realised my personality is alright”.

Danny and his bandmate Tom Fletcher co-starred on The Voice last year, and they won with singer AVA. Danny, who also won last year’s The Masked Singer, said: “Fingers crossed we’ll be back on The Voice. We haven’t heard yet but I’m sure as champions, there’s no choice! Not just the show, but also after, is what Me and Tom are really passionate about. We care about the aftercare”.
Danny, who opened up about his emotions and mental health in the jungle, is also keen to help others. Speaking at his I’m A Celeb pal Coleen Rooney’s Applied Nutrition launch in London, Danny said: “I see the importance of talking with men. I’d like to help communities, or kids that want to do music”.
