With their most recent appearance on Dancing on Ice, Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill will be the envy of the audience, bringing the end to a remarkable 50-year skating career.

Everyone was moved when the legendary duo officially announced their retirement from performing after a pre-recorded yet heartfelt pre-recorded yet emotional showcase. Their careers were puncted by their 1984 Winter Olympics gold medal winning performance with the unforgettable Bolero routine.

The couple’s farewell routine, which was exclusively choreographed for the Dancing on Ice finale and will also be a highlight of their final outing appearances on tour, was set for the upcoming UK arena tour aptly named Our Last Dance. Due to time constraints, the pair had to carefully edit each movement before recording the act.

Referencing his age and the duration of their careers, 66 year old Christopher shared: “We’ve been doing it a long time and people our age shouldn’t be doing it now, so we’re just happy that we can still do it”.

He shared with The Sun in a heartfelt interview that “Dancing on Ice will be playing their final live performance this year.” So once we’ve finished our last skate on the tour, we won’t be performing again”.

Despite hanging up their skates, Jayne, 67, and Christopher will continue to be a part of Dancing on Ice as judges. They assured viewers that they would continue to support and mentor the next generation of ice dancers.

40 years after reaching stardom, the pair revealed in an exclusive interview with The Mirror last year that they were wrapping up their skates. Jayne and Christopher made it clear during our conversation that they would continue to be active on ITV’s Dancing On Ice while continuing to skate when competing and traveling. Chris said, “I think there will come a time when you know,” before deciding to bring things to a close. Although we’re no longer spring chickens, we’re still able to do it to the extent that we feel happy about it, but that will change.

“This is the right time for us to be able to do that and go and skate and do some of the old routines, be very nostalgic, but then do some new fun, upbeat]dances] with friends of ours from the skating world and from Dancing On Ice. We’ll have a sense of pride as well, I think, of what we’ve done. I believe that as we reflect on the situation, we will see it instead of in a sad way.

Away from the ice, both are looking forward to some well-deserved downtime. Jayne disclosed her plans to spend more time in Spain with her husband, Phil Christensen, while Christopher and his partner, Karen, plan to explore the UK in their motorhome.

In 1975, the legendary duo Torvill and Dean teamed up and quickly rose to fame as the country’s most adored ice dancers. Their gold-medal-winning performance at the Sarajevo Olympics in 1984 is etched in the annals of sporting history. In 1994, the pair resurrected into amateur competition and won a bronze medal. Their legacy will continue thanks to Dancing on Ice and the numerous skaters they have inspired, and their impact on British ice dancing is unparalleled.
