Antonio Ferdinand has acknowledged that his famous brother Rio and the rest of his family tease him for making his Dancing on Ice debut.

In the ITV show’s debut, Annette Dytr will skate alongside the former football player who previously played for Queens Park Rangers and West Ham United before retiring in 2019. Anton, 39, made the announcement that his footballer brother Rio would be in the audience on January 12 but hasn’t stopped himself from making fun of his skating debut. “The family WhatsApp group has been crashing.” There’s a bit of banter in there – they can’t wait to see me in sequins”, Anton said. “I’m sure Rio did ballet when he was a child, so I’m sure we all know about it.”

Anton added that he’s “very comfortable” with the show’s extravagant outfits. I’ve seen what their families go through because I work in the West End. I’m just ready to embrace it”, he said. It’s because of his family, and specifically his children, than he decided to sign up to the series in the first place. If I’m being honest, there were times when I thought, “What am I doing? ” I didn’t realize what I was signing myself up to. ‘, for sure”, he said. “As a father, I always talk to my kids about embracing it and being outside of their comfort zones,” he said. and going over it. They now have a photo of their father doing it, so that’s cool. And the visual for me is probably the most important thing, you know, I just don’t want to let them down”.

He acknowledges that the training is much more difficult than he had anticipated. Because this is so difficult, saying yes and seeing the first live performance feels like a win. You also forget how hazardous it is. With the body positions and where you need to put your weight, it’s very difficult to compete as a football player, he said. I had to alter a lot of the ways my body and mind think differently to prevent me from falling while I’m on the ice.

Despite the difficulties, Anton never thought about leaving Dancing on Ice before the live performance. “The word quit will never ever come out of my mouth”, he said firmly. “I am my parent’s son. Why would I continue to work? Has it been hard at times? Has it occasionally caused you to be frustrated? Has it been where you think to yourself, why am I doing this? One hundred per cent. However, tomorrow is always a new day, and despite going through some difficult times and uncertain times, the person who emerges from that always emerges as a better one, and that has always stuck in my mind.

Dancing on Ice returns on Sunday at 6: 30pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
