The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)’s preliminary objection to a lawsuit brought by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE over an oil import licence dispute has been set for March 18th, according to Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court Abuja.
Justice Ekwo fixed the date after counsel to the NNPCL, Ademola Abimbola, SAN, and lawyer to Dangote Refinery, John Ibrahim, SAN, presented their arguments and adopted their processes for and against the suit.
After Ibrahim informed the court that their response to the application was pending, Justice Ekwo had set a date for Wednesday for the hearing of the NNPCL’s preliminary objection.

Abimbola informed the court that their objections were scheduled to be heard at the new hearing, and he assured them that they were prepared to proceed.
Ibrahim, who claimed they had filed a counteraffidavit in opposition to the objection, said he was also willing to move their application.
Moving the application, Abimbola said their notice of preliminary objection, dated and filed on November 15, 2024, sought an order striking out the suit for lack of jurisdiction or in the alternative, an order striking out the name of the company from the suit.
He claimed the application was supported by an affidavit and a written address.
The refinery responded to the lawyer’s counter affidavit on February 3 by filing a second affidavit and a point-of-law response.
He requested that the court remove the NNPCL name or the suit’s name.
Responding, Ibrahim said a five-paragraph counter affidavit, dated January 31, was filed with a written address.
He accepted the procedures and demanded that the preliminary objection be rejected by the court.
