Court Sacks Mutfwang As Plateau Governor

Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau, has been fired by the Abuja Appeal Court.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was instructed by the lead Justice, Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu, to grant Nentawe Goshwe, the candidate for the All Progressive Congress, a Certificate of Return in her decision on Sunday.

Justice Williams-Dawodu overturned the Tribunal’s decision, which declared Governor Mutfwang to be highly incompetent and upheld his election.

The tribunal’s decision to dismiss the petition submitted by the APC and its candidate, claiming that the two had no right to meddle in the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on whose platform Mutfwang was elected, is illegal, according to the court.

The court also ruled that, in contrast to the tribunal’s ruling, the issues raised by the appellants’ petition were pre- and post-election-related issues and could not have been deemed status barred.
