Coronation Street star Georgia Taylor splits from co-star boyfriend after two years of dating
Georgia Taylor, the famous actress who portrayed Toyah Battersby on Coronation Street, has ended her two-year relationship with Charlie de Melo.
Given that Georgia had moved on from her ex-partner and Casualty co-star Mark Letheren, the pair made it clear they were in a romantic relationship.
The couple, who began dating in late 2022, decided to part ways several months ago but remain good friends. They spent Christmas separately, with Georgia celebrating with friends and co-stars. Charlie, who played Imran Habeeb on the show, has since appeared in Disney’s Rivals and Doctor Who. Georgia shared a 14-year relationship with actor Mark in the past.
Georgia and Charlie are no longer a couple, but they are still friends and deeply care about one another, according to a source close to them. There are no conflicts of interest between them, despite the fact that they are both very focused on their work and anticipating the future.
Charlie and Georgia shared a number of photos from a Blur concert he and he performed at London’s Wembley Arena in July 2023, which officially confirmed the love. Since then, they have frequently appeared on the other’s Instagram accounts. Many fans of the Manchester-based programme may not even know that Georgia opted for a pseudonym early on in her career, changing her legal name, Claire Jackson, when she made her soap debut.
She continued, “It’s not that I planned this to happen, but when I first started with Coronation Street I had to register with Equity, the actors’ union, and there seemed to be a lot of Claires at the time, so I had to think about something else.” She’d then admitted: “I couldn’t tell you where I got Georgia from, other than I liked it, but my grandad’s surname was Taylor and he passed away not long before I got the part. I didn’t really consider the consequences of choosing a completely different name when I was a teenager, but it has meant there has been a lot of confusion over the years. At this point I’ll pretty much answer to anything”!
Georgia’s performance in the British soap opera Toyah won the Best Dramatic Performance Award in 2001. She first left Coronation Street in 2003, and from September 2007 she began playing Ruth Winters on BBC One’s Casualty. Georgia’s character engaged in an on-screen romance with Imran Habeeb, who was previously in a relationship with her sister Leanne Battersby (played by Jane Danson).
After four years, Georgia transitioned to television again, starring as Junior Crown Prosecutor Kate Barker in Law &, Order: UK for two seasons, from 2013 to 2014. In 2016, she permanently returned to Coronation Street.
