Coronation Street star Carole Royle reveals music boss husband’s cause of death

After she revealed that Julian Spears had died in a freak swimming pool accident, Coronation Street actress Carole Royle has confirmed his cause of death.
The music executive, who was key to The Boomtown Rats and The Stranglers’ success, passed away on December 9 at the age of 74. Carole, 70, posted on Facebook about his passing on Monday, saying he was a “perfectly fit man”, but developed a “sudden massive brain haemorrhage” after jumping in to a usually heated pool.
After writing and stamping Christmas cards for his family and friends, it has now been revealed that he was taking a dip at his neighborhood David Lloyd gym in West London. He had eaten lunch and had exercised three or four times per week for the previous four years.
He claimed to have told Carole that he had jumped into the pool because it was typically heated and that he had seen steam rise from it. However, the pool was significantly colder than usual, which caused an inoperable haemorrhage in his brain, which led to his passing the following day, on Monday.
Writing on Monday, Carole posted that she was “desperately sorry” to announce the news of the music PR boss for Phonogram, who collapsed at their home in Twickenham. He pleaded for assistance with his wife, and he was taken to West Middlesex Hospital on Sunday by ambulance.
The Mail reports that Carole said the pair were “childhood sweethearts”, adding that they met aged 14, before reuniting in 1977, having been together since. She said alongside his swimming, he was a “keen jogger” who would walk after eating.
She explained that he was “unbelievably passionate” when it came to music, but although he had many successes in the industry, he would “never” brag, and was “very humble”. She revealed that he also collaborated with Sheryl Crow and Barry White, blaming how unfortunate it is that he’s “not around to hear” tributes from him.
Carole predicted a difficult Christmas this year, stating that “the Christmas cards we were going to send to friends and family members abroad are still sitting on his desk unattended from Sunday.” She said of the accident: “The pool was always heated. On any of his previous occasions, it was never cold. And he also recalled seeing steam rise from the water on Sunday, so he assumed it was always heated. However, he jumped in while the water was “icy” and freezing.
She added that although he was “shaken” he got out and drove home safely, saying that she didn’t know how “prominent” warning signs were about the pool being unheated, adding that nobody at reception told Julian it was cold that day. He had complained of “feeling poorly” and losing his balance, saying the room was spinning.
Carole ended the devastating statement: “He completed me. One hundred per cent. He was kind, genuine, generous and lived life to the full”.
