One of the most notorious celebrity court cases ever to be heard was Rebekah Vardy’s Wagatha Christie court case at the English High Court, which was brought by Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney.

And in a new conversation about exactly what transpired, I’m A Celebrity winner Coleen reveals how much her involvement with Rebekah’s lawsuit affected her.

Three years after Coleen exposed Rebekah as the person responsible for a number of leaks about private stories from her Instagram account, the WAGS faced off in a legal fight in the summer of 2022 in the London court. Rebekah officially signed off her post with “It’s Rebekah Vardy’s account.”

Now, as 38-year-old Coleen is no doubt supporting her husband Wayne Rooney after his sacking as manager of Plymouth Argyle, she’s spoken out about what she calls “the lowest” she’s ever been, even with her husband’s support.

Speaking to the Stick to Football podcast, Coleen said: “I had no control over it and that was hard. I was aware that my statement was accurate, but it was difficult for me to deny that it was true when someone else tried to sue me and forced me to prove it. I couldn’t get away from it because it was so long.

She continued to say she would wake up every day and promise to “just get on with your day” but that the paperwork and calls to her legal team, who ultimately won her the case, made it difficult to get away from it. “I felt like I wasn’t myself, I was snappy, and every Friday the lawyers rang me – the other team try and ruin your weekend by calling at the last point on Friday”, she shared.

Rebekah, who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, eventually lost the case and was ordered by the judge to pay 90 per cent of Coleen’s legal costs, which were reportedly upwards of around £1.8million.

“They’d tell me what’s going on and then to try and have a nice weekend”, Coleen told the podcast. “I would leave and start looking for the things he’s asking for,” he said. When Wayne would eventually say, “I’m going to bed,” he would wait on the couch to watch something until 2 a.m. It put a strain on family life, friends – I wasn’t sociable, and it stripped me”.

Vindicated Coleen, who shares sons Kai, Klay, Kit Cass with Wayne, released a statement after case saying was “pleased” with the judge’s ruling but “never believed” it should’ve ended up in court in the first place, especially “at such expense in times of hardship for so many people when the money could have been far better spent helping others”.
