Chelsea’s defense, Lucy Bronze, claims that after 28 games, Sonia Bompastor’s first defeat was “miles off” them best.

Manchester City’s 2-0 first-leg defeat on Wednesday put an end to a 31-game unbeaten run since Liverpool defeated them 4-3 in the Women’s Super League last May.

Chelsea would have set a new record for the longest uninterrupted streak a WSL team has ever had in all competitions had they not lost.

At half-time, Sonia [Bompastor] said, “We were miles off our game.” In the second half, things started to get better, but that’s when they scored.

Chelsea and City’s second successive game ended with a 2-1 victory over Bompastor’s side in the Women’s League Cup final on Saturday.

Before the Champions League returns to Stamford Bridge on Thursday, they will play again in the WSL against City.

Bompastor will be looking for a swift response, and she will be happy to see her Blues succeed right away.

The 33-year-old Bronze added: “Football has ups and downs; it’s what it’s all about.” The first half of the season was fantastic.

Going unbeaten is a nice thing, but it’s not a trophy, the saying goes.

Chelsea has been relentless this year, and they are the only WSL team with a win in each of its 16 games.

Although their impressive unbeaten streak may have ended, Bompastor believes her team still has the strength to recover from a historic quadruple.

We set our goals at the start of the season, she said, and we won’t change them. Our goals are still present, he said. This is not a drama because we have been defeated for the first time.

We don’t care about going unbeaten because it’s not a trophy. I want to win as many trophies as possible and the right games, the crucial ones.

Last season, Chelsea honed the hard lesson that Champions League victories in first-leg matches cannot be taken for granted.

In the semi-final, they defeated Barcelona 1-0 at Stamford Bridge before falling to 2-0 at home.

Former Manchester City midfielder Izzy Christiansen stated on BBC Radio 5 Live, “It’s only half-time.” Chelsea will likely need additional gears, we know. They are very good, indeed. It is elegantly positioned for Thursday night.

At the top of the WSL, Chelsea are 12 points clear of Manchester City, eight points clear of Arsenal and Manchester United, and they are 12 points clear of them.

Ellen White, a former Manchester City forward, thinks Chelsea should concentrate on the Champions League tie as opposed to the two teams’ league meetings on Sunday.

Chelsea simply needs to travel to Stamford Bridge, according to the woman who spoke to 5 Live.
