The Critics’ Choice Awards and host Chelsea Handler were in attendance as the awards season was heating up.
The ceremony recognizes the best in cinematic achievement with its 30th annual bash. The event at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, was once again hosted by the comedian, marking her third year in a row for the role. and the comedian and actress who hosted Chelsea Lately and was also a part of the 2016 Netflix documentary Chelsea Does, opened with a monologue that divided viewers.
Due to the devastating effects of the California wildfires, the ceremony had been postponed twice due to its long-awaited deluge. She was quickly thanked by the first responders in LA and received a standing ovation from the audience.
She continued, “And now I know I speak for all of us when I say what we saw, and the extent of loss has been almost unfathomable.”
However, as the host took to the stage, she made a sharp mockery of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, who are currently embroiled in a contentious legal battle. “We’ve been through a lot lately, not just here in Los Angeles, but our entire country, waking up every day without knowing what news we will hear that will disappoint or horrify us,” said Chelsea. Oh no, it’s crucial to have a distraction during these kinds of situations, and that’s why I want to express my gratitude to Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Thank you for providing us with that distraction. I’m grateful. I think we’re all grateful. I think we’re good. No matter which side you’re on, everyone in this room, in my opinion, can agree that there’s a possibility of a sequel. It ends with us, guys”.
Fans quickly reacted on Twitter/X. One user wrote: “chelsea handler saying” we “are grateful for blake vs justin is why she is bombing right now!!”!. Another said, “I’m already upset because justin baldoni and Blakely lively’s case was a “distraction from life.”
