‘Internet Fraud Not A Shortcut To Wealth,’ EFCC Chair Tells Nigerian Students

Ola Olukoyede, the executive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has warned Nigerian students against engaging in the popularly known “Yahoosh” online fraud, describing it as a means of misery rather than a gipfel of wealth.

The National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Council (NANS JCC), Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, held a one-day symposium on the topic of “Safe Campus for Students: Combating Physical and Digital Threats” through the Head of Public Affairs, Benin Zonal Directorate, ACE I Williams Oseghale.

There is no shortcut to fame and wealth. In the long run, criminal acts may bring about wealth, but ultimately there will be teeth gnashing and misery. We urge young people to stop using Yahoo because it is not sustainable to live there,” said Oseghale.

Olukoyede lamented the rising prevalence of online fraud in youths and warned that the consequences would be severe for both the victims and the entire country.

He emphasized that these crimes sabotage the country’s development objectives, sabotage foreign investment, and harm Nigeria’s reputation.

Students should use the internet for productive and creative endeavors rather than criminal activities, according to the chairman of the anti-graft agency, adding that they must be a part of the solution.

The symposium was attended by Ambrose Alli students.

The youth should develop concepts and viewpoints that can lead to economic development and growth.

Students must become change agents and active foot soldiers against corruption, he said, “but students must not engage in cybercrime that destabilizes the economy,” he said. This includes working as whistle-blowers and gathering intelligence.

Additionally, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, Ambrose Alli University’s Acting Vice Chancellor, gave remarks that praised the EFCC and other event organizers.

The foundation of academic excellence, personal development, and future successes is “a safe campus environment.” He said that it is our collective responsibility to make sure that our institutions are safe havens for learning and free from physical and digital threats.

Ojumoola Miracle Timileyin, NANS JCC Chairman, thanked the Commission for educating the students.

Everyone who saw you with us felt your impact, he said, “and it was truly an honor to have you there.”

FCT Projects: ‘We Are Doing Well Because Tinubu Is Supporting Us,’ Says Wike

Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), cited President Bola Tinubu’s support for recent infrastructure projects in Abuja as evidence of the importance of the president’s support.

The minister praised Tinubu’s leadership on Tuesday while inaugurating the newly constructed Right-Hand Service Carriageway in Abuja, claiming that his commitment to the city has led to the apparent transformation in the capital.

According to Wike, “Monkey dey jump, monkey dey jump.” Some of you may not be aware of the proverb. When Mr. President gives us support, we are doing well. We wouldn’t be here if he weren’t.

The former governor of the Rivers continued to expand the metaphor while urging the president to continue supporting him.

“So it’s because a tree is nearby when we say a monkey is jumping.” He continued, “promising to do my best in accordance with the Renewed Hope Agenda, for the interests of our country and Abuja,” adding that if a monkey jumps without a tree, his leg will break.

Wike argued that the FCT’s ongoing development is planned and necessary, and that road infrastructure is essential to Nigeria’s economic growth. He also urged Tinubu’s support of the projects to continue, thanking President Tinubu for it.

Any economic growth is fueled by road infrastructure. We are letting the people of Abuja know that Mr. President has done a good job of promoting development and prosperity. So we ask that you keep supporting us, Mr. President. If you are not giving us support, the minister rebuked. “We cannot do anything,” the minister said.

The FCT Minister has been in charge of several projects since he took office, including the newly opened Right-Hand Service Carriageway. These developments have attracted criticism over funding priorities despite receiving praise for their improved infrastructure.

The $ 39 billion renovation of the Abuja International Conference Center, which was recently renamed after President Bola Tinubu, is one of the most contentious projects. Opposition groups and members of the public have been critical of the project’s cost.
