‘Don’t Be Unstable, Tell Tinubu What You Want’, Wike Advises Fubara

Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers State, has been advised by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, to show sincerity by being bold enough to ask President Bola Tinubu to say what exactly he wanted rather than “saying something today and doing another thing tomorrow.”

Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant for Public Communications and Social Media, advised him on Saturday in a statement.

He continued, “Visiting people does not suffis to work for peace, those who genuinely want peace must work and act for it.”

These are the same people who are pleading for peace but also engage in activities that go against what they are asking for.

How can you claim to want peace while also supporting people who insult everyone, including the President and his wife?

Because they are not sincere in their up and down pleas for peace, all those shenanigans won’t bring peace, and I am certain they know that.

We express our condolences to our First Lady for the embarrassing behavior of those few women who do not represent the people of Rivers State and the people who follow my leadership in full and condemn that display of shame yesterday.

Despite the ongoing political conflict between Wike and Fubara, Wike’s advice is timely.

The minister also criticized the women’s protest against Senator Oluremi Tinubu, which he claimed are loyal to Fubara, and called it an insult to the people of Rivers State.

The minister, who expressed regret to the first lady and president of Rivers State, said: “It insults the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and as a leader in Rivers State, I apologise.

FG Vows To Complete 284 Kilometre Kano–Maradi Rail Project By 2026

The 284-kilometer Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi railway project will be finished by 2026, according to President Bola Tinubu’s announcement on Friday.

The president made the announcement at the state’s Tashar Bala Area’s 24-kilometer Eastern Bypass and Katsina State Agricultural Mechanization Centre public.

The president claims that the construction of a railroad line that connects Maradi in the neighboring Niger Republic to Kano State in Nigeria’s Northwest Region will ease traffic for people and goods there, reducing the burden on Nigerian roads once it is finished.

The president also made it known that the Federal Government had awarded contracts to complete rehabilitation of the Kafur-Malumfashi-Dayi-Gidan Mutum Daya Roads as well as the complete rehabilitation of Martabar Kankara-Dutsina-Katsina-Katsina Road and Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai.

He added that work is still being done on the road and that the second phase of the Katsina-Kano Road is on track. He claimed that the Federal Government had overcome the road’s previous technical and bureaucratic difficulties.

The Katsina-Kano Road’s second phase is “firmly on track.” The work is still being done along the way, thanks to the accomplishment of previous technical and administrative challenges.

“We have received the contract for the complete rehabilitation of the Kafur-Malumfashi-Dayi-Gidan Mutum Daya Roads, as well as the Martabar Kankara-Dutsina-Katsina-Katsina Road and Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Roads. The roads will be delivered on time, according to us.

The 284-kilometer Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi rail project, in addition, is scheduled to be finished in 2026. When finished, the project will lessen the strain on our roads and ease the transportation of people and goods.

I want to assure the people of Katsina State that there are enough projects and programs under development for the people who are committed. He thanked you for your prayers.

Meta Warns of Instagram, Facebook Shutdown in Nigeria Over FCCPC Fine

The parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, Meta Platforms Inc., has issued a warning that it might have to stop Facebook and Instagram operations in Nigeria despite rising regulatory pressures and labeling government requests as “unrealistic.”

A court document obtained by the BBC revealed this warning. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) of Nigeria is currently contesting a $ 220 million fine for allegedly violating data privacy.

The FCCPC and the NDPC conducted a 38-month collaborative investigation into Meta’s and WhatsApp’s data handling practices.

Meta has vowed to file an appeal in spite of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal’s decision to uphold the fine up until the end of June.

According to Meta, it may need to “effectively shut down the Facebook and Instagram services in Nigeria” in order to “mitigate the risk of enforcement measures.”

Notably, the court document does not make any mention of WhatsApp.

The NDPC, which the company claims misinterprets, is one of Meta’s main concerns.

The NDPC fined Meta $32.8 million for alleged privacy breaches, while the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) imposed a separate $37.5 million fine for what it called unapproved advertising content.

One of the regulatory requirements, which the company describes as “unrealistic,” is that Meta must first obtain prior approval before sending Nigerian users’ data abroad.

Additionally, the NDPC has mandated that Meta create and display educational content on data privacy risks via a dedicated icon on its platforms.

These videos must address manipulative and unfair data processing practices because they must be co-produced with approved organizations and non-profits.

Meta has criticized these directives, calling them “unworkable” and alleging that Nigerian authorities have broken the law in question.

Meta Warns of Instagram, Facebook Shutdown in Nigeria Over FCCPC Fine

Facing increasing regulatory hurdles and labeling government requests as “unrealistic,” Meta Platforms Inc., the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has cautioned that it might have to cease Facebook and Instagram operations in Nigeria.

This warning surfaced in a court document obtained by the BBC. Meta is currently contesting a $220 million fine levied by Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) for purported breaches of data privacy.

The substantial fine is the result of a 38-month collaborative investigation by the FCCPC and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) into the data handling practices of Meta and its messaging service, WhatsApp.

In spite of the April 25 ruling by the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal upholding the fine, Meta has vowed to appeal as it has uptil the end of June to comply.

Meta indicated that to “mitigate the risk of enforcement measures,” it may have to “effectively shut down the Facebook and Instagram services in Nigeria.”

Notably, the company made no mention of WhatsApp in the court document.

Meta’s primary concerns lie with the NDPC, which the company accuses of misinterpreting the country’s data protection laws.

In addition to the FCCPC fine, the NDPC has fined Meta $32.8 million for alleged privacy breaches, while the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) issued a separate $37.5 million penalty for what it called unapproved advertising content.

Among the regulatory demands is a requirement that Meta obtain prior approval before transferring Nigerian users’ data abroad—a condition the company deems “unrealistic.”

The NDPC has also ordered Meta to create and display educational content on data privacy risks via a dedicated icon on its platforms.

These videos are to be co-produced with approved institutions and non-profits, and must address manipulative and unfair data processing practices.

Meta has pushed back against these directives, describing them as “unworkable” and asserting that the Nigerian authorities have failed to properly interpret their own data laws.

Afenifere Alleges Conspiracy Against President Tinubu

The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has raised the alarm over what it described as a dangerous and deliberate plot to sabotage President Tinubu’s administration by falsely labelling it a “Yoruba government” in a bid to stir ethnic division and truncate his re-election bid.

In a press statement issued on Friday and signed by its National Organising Secretary, Apagun Omololu, Afenifere condemned what it called a clandestine ethnic agenda allegedly exposed by Dr Sandra Duru, who revealed details of a shocking conversation she had with suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

According to the group, the former senator made a shocking admission of a conspiracy to provoke tribal sentiments against the President by painting his government as ethnically biased, in what Afenifere said was an attempt to deny him a second term at all costs.

“We have taken due note of the recent exposé by Dr Sandra Duru, detailing her conversation with the suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, particularly her shocking admission of a clandestine plot to sabotage the administration of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which the conspirators have stereotyped as a ‘Yoruba government’, and thereby stir the embers of division to deny him a second term. This is no light accusation. It is a revelation that demands reflection from patriots and repudiation from all who still hold Nigeria dear,” the group declared.

Afenifere made it clear that President Tinubu’s mandate was a national mandate, not a tribal coronation, stating that his emergence as Nigeria’s leader came through the ballot box and the trust of Nigerians from all walks of life.

“Let it be said, plainly and without ambiguity, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government is not a Yoruba government. It is a Nigerian government. He did not ascend to the presidency by tribal inheritance but by democratic choice — the result of votes cast in faith by Nigerians of every tongue, creed, and religion.”

The group described the ethnic stereotyping of Tinubu’s government as not only dishonest but dangerous tribal opportunism that must be rejected by all Nigerians of conscience.

Drawing parallels with the past, Afenifere recalled that no such tribal conspiracy was hatched when President Muhammadu Buhari held sway for eight years.

“We remind the nation: When President Muhammadu Buhari held office for eight years, no one branded his leadership as a ‘Fulani government’. No tribal coalition was formed to deny him a second term on the grounds of ethnicity. He was allowed to serve out his mandate in full and rightly so. The same principle of equity and continuity must apply now.”

“Let no one demand justice only when it suits them, but deny it when it is owed to others. President Tinubu shall serve his full term of eight years, by the will of the good people of this country and under the watch of the Constitution. To suggest otherwise is to play Russian roulette with our national destiny,” the group warned.

Lauding Dr Duru for what it described as uncommon courage, the group praised her decision to speak up against what it termed a desperate and dangerous plot.

“Afenifere salutes Dr Sandra Duru for her uncommon courage for speaking truth not only to power, but to conspiracy. Her voice is a reminder that integrity still walks among us, and that silence, in the face of wickedness, is not an option for those who love this country.”

Afenifere also rose in defence of the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, describing the smear campaigns and allegations against him as malicious and politically motivated, especially for choosing to work closely with the President.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the campaign of calumny and false allegations against the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, a man whose only crime, it appears, is that he dares to cooperate and collaborate with the President in the spirit of statesmanship and progress.”

The group frowned at what it called the weaponisation of false allegations and the invasion of people’s private lives in the name of politics.

“We reject the weaponisation of false allegations as political tools, especially when such weapons are aimed at innocent men, families and private lives. Politics has its place, but it must never trespass the boundaries of human decency.”

“To smear a man’s name, fabricate charges, and unleash innuendo on his children, his home, and his honour — that is not politics. That is malice in its rawest form,” the statement added.

The group further lambasted those it described as domestic arsonists, accusing them of seeking foreign validation for the chaos they are allegedly orchestrating within the country.

“We strongly decry the internationalisation of fabricated domestic issues by those who authored the falsehood in the first place. This is akin to setting fire to your own seat in a cinema and running out crying ‘Fire! Fire!’ not out of alarm, but out of selfish ambition.”

“It is selfishness that seeks to burn down the image of the nation to satisfy the ego of one person who believes that except she has her way, the country should not have peace.”

Afenifere maintained that Nigeria is not a tribal empire, warning that no amount of blackmail or conspiracy would derail the country’s constitutional path.

“Nigeria is not a personal or tribal empire. Our nation will not bow to tribal blackmail. It will not bend to invented narratives. And it will not break under the weight of conspiracy.”

“Let all patriots rally to the defence of truth, justice, and constitutional order. Let us remember that nations fall not only when tanks roll through streets but also when lies, repeated often enough, begin to sound like truth.”

The group rounded off with a warning against what it described as petty ambition masked as activism, urging Nigerians to reject agents of national sabotage.

FG’s Initiative Empowers 300 Women, Youths In Niger

The Renewed Hope Initiative collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to provide agricultural inputs and support to over 300 women and youths in Niger State in a significant effort to increase agricultural productivity and empower vulnerable groups.

The program, with the title “Planting for the Future,” aims to unlock women’s and youth’s potential to transform the agricultural sector and ensure the country’s future.

Fatima Bago, the wife of Niger State Governor Umaru Bago, who represented Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also attended the event, which was held at the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium in Minna North Central Nigeria.

Fatima Bago, the state governor’s wife, emphasized the value of women having more sex with agriculture, claiming that this would provide for the country’s population with food and security.

Fatima Bago, the governor’s wife, emphasized the crucial role women play in agriculture in her keynote speech, stating that providing women and youths with the resources to manage sustainable farming would improve both domestic nutrition and national food security. She noted that the program encompasses aquaculture, livestock rearing, crop cultivation, and livestock raising.

She said, “You empower a nation when you empower a woman in agriculture.” This initiative will improve the nation’s food systems and provide for homes.

The initiative, according to Special Adviser to the Governor for Women Affirmative Action, aligns with the New Niger Agenda’s goal of harnessing women’s potential to stimulate agriculture and ensure food security.

She praised the initiative as being “timely and strategic.” Women and youths are seen as key players in the transformation of our agricultural sector and the long-term sustainability of food.
