Former Liberian President George Weah arrived at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abuja on Thursday to sign the condolence register in honor of late President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former Liberian leader and his entourage were received by the chief of protocol of the ministry Wahab Akande.
Buhari, who died in a London hospital on Sunday, was buried in Daura on Tuesday, with President Bola Tinubu in attendance.

Online privacy campaigners filed fresh complaints against social media giant TikTok and two other Chinese-owned companies on Thursday, saying they had failed to comply with data access requests.
Prominent Austria-based privacy campaign group Noyb (None of Your Business) already filed complaints against the three and another three Chinese-owned companies in January, accusing them of “unlawfully” sending Europeans’ personal data to China.
While Shein, Temu and Xiaomi provided the complainants with additional information, TikTok, AliExpress and WeChat “continued to violate” the EU’s landmark General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Noyb said.
Noyb said it filed the fresh complaints against TikTok with data protection authorities in Greece, against AliExpress in Belgium and against WeChat in the Netherlands to order them to fulfil the access requests and fine them.
“All three tech companies have failed to comply with access requests… This makes it impossible for European users to exercise their fundamental right to privacy, to find out how their personal data is being processed,” Noyb said.

TikTok only provided part of the complainant’s data “in an unstructured form that was impossible to understand”, Noyb said.
TikTok did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment.
Last week, Beijing denied asking firms to “illegally” collect and store users’ personal information after an investigation was opened into its European operations.
TikTok was fined 530 million euros ($610 million) in May by Ireland’s Data Protection Commission over sending personal data to China, although the Chinese social media giant had insisted this data was only accessed remotely.
Ireland’s DPC is the lead regulator in the EU for TikTok as the company has its European headquarters in the country.
The social media giant has been in the crosshairs of Western governments for years over fears that personal data could be used by China for espionage or propaganda purposes.
Noyb has launched several legal cases against US technology giants such as Meta and Google, often prompting action from regulatory authorities over violations of the GDPR.
“Chinese apps are even worse than US providers,” Noyb said on Thursday.
Noyb began working in 2018 with the advent of the GDPR.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the timing of his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing him of attempting to divert national attention during a period of mourning.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Keyamo condemned Atiku’s decision to resign barely a day after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Dikko Radda, and other dignitaries at former President Muhammadu Buhari’s funeral in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
“Your Excellency, whilst I acknowledge that it is within your constitutional right to change political parties at any time you may wish, releasing your letter of resignation from the PDP during this week of the mourning of our immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, is clearly an attempt to draw the spotlight away from such a solemn occasion and direct it on yourself.
“With the greatest respect to you, this clearly demonstrates that your obsession with your perennial Presidential ambition knows no sympathy or empathy,” Keyamo wrote.

The senior lawyer also raised legal and ethical concerns about Atiku’s continued use of the Nigerian Coat of Arms in his private communications.
“It is both morally and legally wrong to continue to use the Coat of Arms of the Federal Government in your private or political communications when you stopped being a functionary of the Federal Government more than 18 years ago,” he stated, citing Section 6 of the Flag and Coat of Arms Act, Cap. F30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
He warned that such usage “borders on impersonation,” stressing his duty “as a cabinet member and a member of the Inner Bar to protect our laws and constitution.”

Atiku, in a letter dated 14 July 2025 and addressed to the PDP chairman in Jada 1 Ward, Adamawa State, formally announced his resignation from the party he helped to found.
“It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognising the irreconcilable differences that have emerged. I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for,” Atiku wrote.
The 78-year-old politician expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded him.
He said, “Serving two full terms as Vice President of Nigeria and being a Presidential candidate twice has been one of the most significant chapters of my life.”
Atiku was Vice President from 1999 to 2007 under President Olusegun Obasanjo. He was the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 elections, both of which he lost.

His latest resignation is believed to be part of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Alongside other key opposition figures—including Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai—Atiku has joined a coalition seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu.
The coalition has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform, appointing former Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman and ex-Osun governor Rauf Aregbesola as interim national secretary.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday led a National Assembly delegation to Daura, Katsina State, for a condolence visit to Governor Dikko Radda following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking during the visit, Senator Akpabio described the late president as “a patriot, a man of integrity, and a shining light who served Nigeria both as a military leader and democratically elected president”.
He revealed that the delegation faced travel challenges the previous day when their flight couldn’t land due to airport closure, forcing them to circle for over two hours before diverting to Abuja.
“We insisted we must return today to honour a man who gave everything for Nigeria,” Akpabio said.

The Senate President, who served as a minister under Buhari, said the late president’s legacy is one defined by discipline, humility, and love for the country.
He also highlighted his connection to Katsina State, recalling the establishment of the Faculty of Law at the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, which he insisted be named after Buhari rather than himself.

Akpabio praised Governor Radda’s leadership and noted the special bond between Akwa Ibom and Katsina states, both created on the same day.
“Development doesn’t come from money alone—it comes from love for the people,” he said.
In his response, Governor Radda thanked the delegation and shared his close relationship with the late president.
“Since his retirement, I visit Baba every two to three weeks. He always reminded me to fear God, lead with justice, and love this country,” said Governor Radda.
The governor described Buhari as appearing reserved from a distance but warm and inspiring in person.
“His passing is a great loss to Katsina, to Nigeria, and to all of us who looked up to him as a father,” Radda added.

A former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dibu Ojerinde, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have agreed to settle the ₦5.2 billion case out of court.
Ojerinde’s lawyer, Eteya Ogana, informed Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja shortly after the matter was called.
Ogana said, though the matter was adjourned for the defence to open their case today, there was a development where parties were exploring to see if the matter could be settled administratively.
He said, given the foregoing, “we shall be asking for a long date after vacation to enable us to report same”.
ICPC’s counsel, Lesie Iheduru, also corroborated Ogana ‘s remark. He said talks were ongoing on the reconciliation move.
Justice Egwuatu consequently adjourned the matter until Oct. 20 for report/settlement or defence.
Ojerinde had, in February 2022, opted for a plea bargain with the anti-corruption commission before the settlement collapsed.
He was arraigned on an 18-count charge before Justice Egwuatu in July 2021 by the commission for offences of corruption and fraud, when he headed the National Examinations Council (NECO) and JAMB.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the counts.
Justice Egwuatu had, on June 10, dismissed the no-case submission filed by Ojerinde and ordered him to enter his defence.
The ex-JAMB registrar, through his lawyer, had argued that he had no case to answer, insisting that the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against him.
He, therefore, prayed the court to dismiss the charges against him.

The development followed after the commission had presented witnesses and closed its case against the defendant.
But ICPC, in its argument, said it had been able to substantiate its allegations against the defendant.
The prosecution maintained that the commission had established its case and that the court should order him to enter his defence.
In his ruling, the judge held that the elements of the offence preferred against Ojerinde had been identified by the ICPC’s witnesses, requiring the defendant to enter a defence.
The ICPC alleged that Ojerinde committed multiple frauds while heading NECO and JAMB.
He was alleged to have committed offences bordering on abuse of office and fraudulent diversion of funds from government coffers to the tune of ₦5.2 billion.
In the proof of evidence tendered before the court by the ICPC’s lawyer, Ebenezer Shogunle, the commission accused him of conferring corrupt advantage upon himself at different times while he was the Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB and NECO, respectively.
