Mark Ronson ‘reexamines’ teenage friendship with Michael Jackson after abuse claims

Mark Ronson has opened up about his experience as a young teen attending an after-party with Michael Jackson and how allegations against the singer since have made him re-examine the moment

DJ Mark Ronson has candidly confessed he had to re-examine his past friendship with Michael Jackson following the allegations made against the late star. Ronson, now 50, was introduced to the King of Pop as a young teen.

Ronson admitted he spent an evening with the Beat It singer in a hotel room at the age of 13. And now the music producer has said he has had to reflect on their time together after a number of claims by others.

A number of allegations have been made against Jackson over the years. These include claims made by Wade Robson and James Safechuck in the documentary Leaving Neverland 2.

The two men allege they were sexually abused as children by pop star, with the pair bringing lawsuits against MJJ Ventures, which is owned by the Jackson estate, and MJJ Productions, accusing the company of failing to protect them from Jackson. They even went as far as saying they made sure the singer could get them alone.

Prior to his death in 2009, Jackson strongly denied any claims of misconduct that were made against him.

Now, Ronson has opened up on his previous meetings with the singer, to whom he was introduced to by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s son Sean. Ronson later attended an afterparty with around 50 others in Jackson’s hotel room.

In Ronson’s new book, he insists nothing untoward ever took place between the pair. However, he did say the moments sound strange.

Excerpts in The Sun reveal Ronson speaking about the after-party experience. He said: “I think Michael hung out at Sean’s house and then the next night we went to see the Bad Tour. And then Michael had a big after-party in his hotel room.

“He was just obsessed with throwing these soggies out the window – like taking big mounds of toilet paper and making them damp and then throwing them at parked cars. It’s so crazy to say it out loud.”

Ronson admitted that even at that age, his passion was to be in the music studio. “I wanted to get a cool hook from Michael Jackson to take back.

“Like, ‘You guys go play and run around like kids, I am going to use this Michael Jackson meeting to like get something, get a song out of it’,” he said.

Sadly, the melody never came and Mark has added that since the other allegations have been made public, he has re-examined that moment a number of times.

“Of course I put it back through that lens a hundred times,” he said. “I was like, for whatever reason, there was nothing weird or untoward on that night.”

Greg Rutherford shared a sweet snap of the pair on the ice and penned a lengthy post. He began: “Utterly heart breaking news. I was so starstruck when I met Ricky for the first time and asked for this photo. I told him big a fan I was and through the entire chat he couldn’t have been kinder and more engaged.

“Getting to know him the little bit I did that kindness always shined through. We had a couple of chats about mental health and the battles he’d faced and I told him some things that I hadn’t told anyone else about my own battles.

“He had some amazing words of support and I will always be thankful for that. A great human first and one of the greatest boxers we’ve ever seen. He’s going to be missed. Love to his family,” Greg concluded.

“So kind, funny, generous.. his laughter and spirit filled the room. He had the heart of a champ and was FEARLESS. You will be sorely missed Ricky. Gone way too soon. Rest in power champ.”

Judge Oti Mabuse took to her stories to say: “My heart goes out to @rickyhitmanhatton. Kindest heart and sweetest man. Was like a father figure to many celebs on doi.”

Love Island winner and musical theatre star Amber Davies penned: “Lovely Ricky. Thinking of all his loved ones, one of the sweetest during our time together on Dancing on Ice. RIP.”

Alongside the upload, Will said:”I’m absolutely devastated to hear about my good friend Ricky Hatton!! He was the real people’s champion but his biggest battle was his mental health! Throughout his illustrious boxing career, he held numerous world championships, as well as UK titles, and was honoured as Fighter of the Year in 2015.

Singer Charli XCX looked every bit the radiant bride as she posed against the breathtaking Sicilian backdrop during her second wedding ceremony this weekend. The 33-year-old said ‘I do’ for the second time to her hubby George Daniel, a 1975 band member, following her London wedding two months ago.

The loved-up couple were snapped arm in arm on their special day and were seen walking along the beautiful Sicilian streets before arriving at their star-studded ceremony. The newlyweds brought their own vows to the special day, and George reportedly appeared emotional as he read his out before putting a ring on his wife’s finger.

An insider previously told The Sun that the couple knew they wanted to get married in Sicily and that there would be ‘no expense spared’. They said: “Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there. It’s incredibly secluded and romantic.”

Adding: “There will be no expense spared. It’s costing tens of thousands of pounds and visually it will be mesmerising. Charli and George said they wanted a massive party and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night.”

While Charli and George rarely share an insight into their personal life, she has said in the past that neither she nor her now husband were hugely fussed on the formal aspect of being man and wife.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, she said: “We’re both very chill and we kind of just want to have a party. Neither of us are particularly formal about marriage or care about the formalities of the ceremony or whatever. We just want to be together forever and have a party with our friends.”

The couple went public with their romance just one year later in May 2022 and even dedicated her song, Talk Talk, from her smash Brat album to George, while fans also believe her songs Welcome to My Island and Everything Is Romantic could be about the musician.

In a 2023 interview with The Sun, Charli spoke of George’s influence on her career and creative process.

She said: “Now that I’m in a relationship with another musician, he’s influenced me a lot with his process and how he and his band work. It’s really different to how I work, and that has definitely influenced me and my process.”

Charli XCX and husband George Daniel have been married for a second time – less than two months after they first swapped vows. The Brat summer mastermind and The 1975 drummer were first married in London on 19 July.

And following their initial ceremony at Hackney Town Hall, the pair have laid on a more lavish celebration in Italy. Charli – whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, 33 – and George, 35, had a second ceremony on the island of Sicily.

Photos have emerged of the couple looking loved up and happy – with the bride wowing in a sheer white, strappy, sleeveless dress, and George looking dapper in a sand coloured suit. Friends, family and A-List stars were reportedly in attendance to see the couple pronounced husband and wife a second time.

The second set of vows – which The Sun has shared photos of – came after Charli joked she would have walked out on her now husband if he hadn’t cried at their first ceremony. Following the original big day, she took to TikTok to share a video clip of herself dressed in her white gown walking into a room and then turning around to walk away.

She playfully captioned the short clip: “When george isn’t crying when he sees me walking down the aisle.” And she added: “Luckily he did,” confirming she had been married at that time.

After swapping vows the first time, Charli gave a rare insight into her new life as she sat down for an interview with Australia’s Russh magazine.

When the questions inevitably turned to how the singer would spend her latest ‘Brat’ Summer, she said: “I mean, it can always be brat summer if you want it to be.

“For me I’m sort of just chilling. I just got married so I’m kind of exploring that, how it makes me feel and just hanging out with George.”

Giving insight into their low key family life away from the spotlight, she revealed: “I’m watching a lot of movies and thinking about movies and films I’m making and want to make. That’s what I’m inspired by right now.”

Reports have suggested that Charli and George opted to marry the second time in Sicily because they have a shared love for the island.

A source told The Sun: “Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there. It’s incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared. It’s costing tens of thousands of pounds and visually it will be mesmerising.

“Charli and George said they wanted a massive party and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night.

“They have both had such a busy summer with massive shows, but from mid-August they’re able to slow down and focus on their big day.

“It’s going to be pretty star-studded too, with plenty of their celeb mates making the journey over to Sicily to watch them say ‘I do’. Charli and George are so excited to become man and wife.”
