Bruno Mars fans realise they’ve heard hit song before as they work out double meaning

Fans of Bruno Mars are finally recognizing the hit song “APT.” from.

Since its release in October 2024, the song, which was co-written by South Korean pop star ROSÉ, has amassed an impressive 839 million streams to date.

Despite its success, fans have been left with déjà vu after hearing the song’s catchy pre-chorus, convinced it has taken inspiration from other popular hits. Reddit users have been trying to find the melody’s name on r/NameThatSong.

One user queried: “What’s the song from the melody of ‘ APT. ‘ by Rosé and Bruno Mars”? They added: “The pre-chorus that says ‘ Don’t you want me like I want you, baby? Don’t you need me like I need you now? Sleep tomorrow, but tonight, go crazy. You just need to meet me at the “has a melody that makes me think of a song I can’t place,” and that’s it.

The producers previously revealed ‘ APT. ‘ took inspiration from ‘ Shake It Off’, ‘ Hollaback Girl’, and ‘ Hey Ya! ‘, with a sample from 1980s smash hit, ‘ Hey Mickey’. Fans have also been recalled of other songs, though, not just those.

The debut single of the music sensation sent fans into a frenzy as they matched its tune to hits like Lewis Capaldi’s ‘ Forever’, Bruce Springsteen’s ‘ You’ll Be Comin ‘ Down ‘ and even drew parallels with One Direction’s ‘ Night Changes’.

Amid speculation, one user’s comment caught attention when they spotted the similarity, prompting the remark: “LMAO actually yes this is the melody from the pre-chorus!!! Thank you”.

While ‘ APT ‘ is said to stand for ‘ apartment’, the song also has a double meaning, according to ROSÉ. In a conversation with Vogue, she revealed: “‘ APT. ‘ is the name of my recent single, “APT.” is a Korean drinking game that my friends and I enjoy playing.

She said the song came to be after a series of laid-back studio sessions. We basically were hanging out in the studio, and she said, “We should play some Korean drinking games,” and I did.

During a chat with Capital, ROSÉ added: “I caught onto it because they’re not Koreans, they’re Americans and they were like, ‘ What is this? This is crazy? ‘

” I was like, ‘ Wow, you guys are really loving this! ‘ I said as a joke, ‘ We should make a song. ‘ So jokingly, we made the song and that’s what ‘ APT. ‘ is right now.

“I remember going home freaking out, thinking, ‘ Is this ok? writing a song about drinking. Is this too unserious”?. She has described Mars’ interaction as the “craziest experience of my life” ever since.
