It’s been a whirlwind 12 months for Sydnie Christmas.
Speaking to me exactly one year after her audition for Britain’s Got Talent, Sydnie is already gearing up for her first tour. The 29-year-old has released her first album My Way, performed for King Charles at the Royal Variety Performance, and found herself schmoozing in Los Angeles with Jennifer Hudson and Michael Buble since storming the ITV contest.
However, Sydnie insists that she is still firmly planted despite living the dream. She tells me: “I don’t get noticed, ever. No one looks a single eyelid when I use the Tube. I’m not that famous! I spent the summer with friends The Traitors’ Harry Clark and Paul Gorton. Everyone recognised them, but not me. They thought that I was their manager”.

Before finally making the decision to audition for BGT, Sydnie had been considering it for four years. But she admits: “The show has changed my life – 2024 has been the best year yet”. Last month’s Royal Albert Hall performance for King Charles was a highlight. At the occasion, the monarch exchanged a conversation with Sydnie. She tells me with a smile: “It was like talking to your grandad.

The King resembles his mother, the King says. He’s small, with big hands. I was so impressed. He said, ‘ Were you the girl that won the contest? ‘ I went, ‘ Yeah’. I adored his normal behavior. “In another ‘ pinch- me ‘ moment, Sydnie was asked to perform at an LA fundraiser organised by hotshot record producer David Foster. Jennifer Hudson was singing I Will Always Love You when she first entered. Michael Buble then leaped onto the stage. I followed him up. Michael lifted me up as he ran backstage. It was pukka… they’re just normal people. Hopefully they’ll be my mates one day. “

For her upcoming tour, Sydnie draws inspiration from musical legends. She wanted it to be an intimate affair full of music and conversation, similar in style to Adele ‘ s Las Vegas residency.
Sydnie says:” I want the audience to get to know me as much as I can in 90 minutes. I’m going to be telling some seriously s**t and some funny stories about how I completely failed in things but persevered until this happened, in order to hopefully not lose my voice. I want to show I didn’t wake up one day and get lucky. I grafted and whole-bodily wanted this.

“I want to show people that if you keep going, you get what you want”. But there’s one thing chatterbox Sydnie is worried about.
She acknowledges that she needs to practice not speaking too much because she might as well just rant. I’ll have to time my speech. It’ll be hard”.
Sydnie will also include some more contemporary tunes from Lady Gaga and soul songs she grew up listening to in addition to opening the show with Tomorrow and closing with My Way, both of which won BGT awards.

Her 10-weeklong tour begins in Glasgow on February 9 and lasts for two weeks.
