Boxing wins vote to be in 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

After the International Olympic Committee made a unanimous decision to include boxing in the Los Angeles 2028 Games, it will continue to be an Olympic sport.
When the schedule for the next Olympics was first announced in 2022, the sport was not included in the schedule.
Before voting to include World Boxing at the upcoming session in Greece, the IOC only recently approved it as the sport’s global body.
“I appreciate you granting me the right to box back.” Thomas Bach, the retiring IOC president, said, “We can look forward to a great boxing tournament.”
Since 1904, except for 1912, boxing has been a part of the Olympics, but the IOC has run it now, two years after the International Boxing Association (IBA) was suspended for governance, finances, refereeing, and ethical concerns.
In June 2023, the Russian-led IBA was denied its status because it had not implemented reforms.
Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan, both of whom participated in the last year’s Olympics in Paris, and the IOC and the IBA engaged in a fight.
The IOC allowed the fighters to compete and both of them both won gold medals in their weight classes, but the IBA prohibited them from competing at the 2023 World Championships because they had failed gender eligibility tests.
Since its formation in April 2023, World Boxing has grown to 84 members on five different continents, including Great Britain.
“This is a great day for boxers, boxing, and everyone who supports our sport at every level in the world,” said Boris van der Vorst, president of World Boxing.
World Boxing is a “trustworthy and reliable partner that will adhere to and uphold the values of the Olympic Movement,” the statement read. “We are determined to be a trustworthy and reliable partner that will adhere to and uphold the values of the Olympic Movement.
The IOC has stated that only World Boxing athletes who are national federations members can compete in Los Angeles at the start of the 2028 Olympic qualification competitions.
