Enes Unal, a striker for Bournemouth, has been identified as having a tear to his right knee during a training session.

Unal, 27, signed for the Cherries permanently from Getafe on a four-year deal last summer, having joined on loan in the January transfer window.

The Turkey international, who has made 17 appearances this season and scored two goals, picked up the contact injury in a routine drill on Tuesday.

Our thoughts are with Enes right now as he begins to heal from a lengthy, significant period of rehabilitation, the club said in a statement.

In the upcoming days, he will have surgery to repair the ligament, and the club’s medical and performance staff will be there for him throughout.

Unal has had a long absence with a serious injury for the second time, having also suffered a broken ACL while playing for Spanish side Getafe and missing the La Liga season from 2023 to 2024.

Unal and Evanilson’s absences will be a blow to Bournemouth’s European ambitions this season.

With their 1-0 victory over Everton on the weekend, they broke their previous Premier League goal of eight games unbeaten.

The Cherries are seventh in the table, three points behind the leaders.

After failing to score in 13 Championship games for the Hornets, striker Daniel Jebbison has been called back from his loan spell at Watford, which they announced later on Wednesday.
