Borno Attack: Tinubu Mourns Slain Soldiers, Orders Probe

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu paid tribute to the soldiers killed in an attack on a military base in Damboa, Borno State, in Sabon Gida.

Last Saturday, members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) attacked the base in Sabon Gari in the Borno State region with trucks and motorcycles before dawn.

Military sources said they set fire to the base and army vehicles on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to comment on the incident.

Fighter jets deployed from the regional capital Maiduguri 100 kilometres (62 miles) away struck the attackers as they retreated.

Following the demise of six brave soldiers in a terrorist attack at dawn on January 4, Tinubu expressed his deep sympathy to the military in a statement released by the presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.

He mandated a “deep investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the unfortunate incident and ensure that it serves as a valuable lesson to prevent similar events.”

The Army’s resolute action demonstrates how capable and prepared it is to confront and halt threats to the security of our country. Their actions demonstrate our commitment to ending terrorism and banditry, paving the way for all Nigerians to experience peace and security,” the President was quoted as saying.

On behalf of a grateful nation, I express my sincere gratitude and sympathy to our military and security forces.

We stand firmly in your side as you work tirelessly to end these threats, and you’ve made no mistake about it.

The Commander-in-Chief also commended the armed forces for their swift and decisive response, particularly the air component, in launching effective retaliatory strikes.

Tinubu’s targeted air raids resulted in the significant neutralization of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their assets as they attempted to flee.

The President wants the military to actively engage in combat in bandits and terrorists’ camps.

He emphasized the Northwest, where innocent villagers still face danger in their lives and their homes.
