In the Premier League, you can now add the seagull imitation to the list of things you can book for.

In front of the home fans whose team are known as the Seagulls, Iliman Ndiaye celebrated by flapping his arms like a gull after scoring the only goal in Everton’s 1-0 victory over Brighton.

Fans on social media were confused as to what exactly he had done wrong because he had been appropriately booked for excessive celebration.

Players may celebrate when a goal is scored, according to Law 12 of the IFAB Laws of the Game, but it must not be excessive, choreographed celebrations are not encouraged, or time is wasted.

Players should return as soon as possible in the game of play to celebrate a goal, which is not a cautionable offence.

A player is cautioned for approaching spectators in a provocative, derisory, or inflammatory manner, removing the shirt or covering the head with the shirt, even if the goal is blocked.

displaying a yellow card to the referee

England legend Paul Gascoigne spotted Douglas Smith dropping his yellow card in a match between Rangers and Hibernian in December 1995.

He ran over to the referee, who was returning the card, and joked about honing his wits.

Smith, however, didn’t seem to care about the joke. He held up the card to book Gascoigne for dissent and checked his pockets as if he were searching for the yellow card.

Jose Mourinho’s resignation as Fenerbahce boss came just before the start of the season when they defeated Antalyaspor 2-0.

He was angry that his goal for offside was denied, so he placed a still of the incident on a laptop next to his dugout.

Hugging your grandmother

In 2014, Roma right-back Alessandro Florenzi scored in a 2-0 win over Cagliari.

He ran past his team-mates, past the bench, jumped over a gate and went up into the crowd to hug his 82-year-old grandmother.

He was brought back to the pitch by a steward, who sent him a yellow card.

Tackling a pitch invader (dressed in a mankini)

Ashley Vickers, the manager of Dorchester Town, was flagged off in a 2011 Blue Square Bet South match against Havant &amp, Waterlooville after confronting a pitch invader while wearing a mankini.

“I’m dumbfounded and speechless. I thought I was doing them a favour”, he told the Dorset Echo.

“It beggars belief. Their players even offered to take a player off to make things even more interesting, and they told the ref not to send me off.

His team lost 3-1 to his team, who ended up with 8 men after more traditional red cards.

In February 2024, Wycombe’s Luke Leahy dried the ball on a steward’s jacket before taking a throw-in during an EFL Trophy tie against Bradford City.

Unfortunately for him, the EFL introduced a new rule prohibiting players from wiping the ball on something before making a throw-in at the start of the season.

In fact, there are numerous instances in which players are revoked for urinating.

Max Crocombe of Salford City won the 2017 National League North game against Bradford Park Avenue.

The steward twice told him not to do it, so he did it, according to Park Avenue secretary Colin Barker.

In 2022, Connor Maseko of ninth-tier Blackfield &amp, Langley FC went to the toilet in a hedge during an FA Cup qualifier – and was dismissed.

Sebastian Munoz, a striker for Atletico Awajun, was video-taped in Peru last year, who appeared to be relying on himself while awaiting a corner and being sent off.

Breaking wind

Swedish lower league footballer Adam Lindin Ljungkvist was given a second suspension for causing a windbite during a game in 2016.

The referee called his flatulence “unsportsmanlike” and thought he was “farting on someone else”.
