Boko Haram Attacks Borno Military Base, Kills 18 Soldiers
A commander and twenty-two soldiers were killed in an attack on the military base in Malam-Fatori in Borno State’s Abadam Local Government Area.
Malam-Fatori is a border town, two kilometres from the Nigerien border community, Bosso.
Sources reported that the attackers, who stormed the Malam-Fatori military base, wreaked havoc for several hours on Friday, 24 January 2025, before dislodging the 149 Battalion. Survivors of the deadly attack reportedly fled to safety.

During the assault, intelligence sources confirmed that the insurgents had driven to the base with numerous gun trucks and destroyed several military-operated structures.
A source told Channels Television that “many soldiers were seriously injured, and several other personnel have gone missing.”
“The commanding officer of the battalion a lieutenant Colonel, two senior officers, including the base medical director, were among those killed in the attack”.
The insurgents are currently hibernating in Lake Chad, two kilometers from the border town of Bosso, in the Nigerien border town.
The troops were conducting routine operations in the Timbuktu triangle when they drove into an ambush that resulted in the death of the Commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Alari, according to a military source who spoke to Channels Television.
In the northeast, the militant group known as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) dissolved from the well-known Boko Haram in 2016.
The Timbuktu Triangle and Sambisa Forest, a game reserve turned jihadist stronghold, were taken over by them as well as the area that was previously under Boko Haram’s control.
The group is infamous for using explosives to target soldiers by rigging cars and planting roadside mines.
In a village where ISWAP is active, seven soldiers were killed in July when their vehicle struck a landmine.
The 15-year-old conflict has killed 40, 000 and displaced around two million from their homes in the northeast.
