Body Of One Direction Star Flown Home To Britain
According to a police source, the father of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, who died last month from a balcony in Buenos Aires, began moving the singer’s body to Britain on Wednesday.
A flight carrying Payne’s remains left Buenos Aires for London at 1: 58 pm local time (1658 GMT), the source said.
Moments before boarding, a video that was posted on social media showed his father, Geoff, at the Ezeiza International Airport.
Payne’s body was reportedly taken from the British Cemetery in Buenos Aires on Wednesday morning, according to Argentine media.
The funeral home’s employee who oversees the arrangements stated to AFP on Tuesday that the arrangements would be repatriated within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Payne was found dead on October 16 after , plunging from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur Hotel in the Argentinian capital.
His death at age 31 prompted a global outpouring of grief and condolences from family, former bandmates, fans and others.
Additionally, it sparked debates about whether the music industry is responsible for the mental health of stars who achieve fame at a young age.
Payne had discussed issues with substance abuse and how to handle fame from a young age.
Hotel staff had called emergency services twice to report a guest “overwhelmed by drugs and alcohol” who was “destroying” a hotel room.
After his son’s death, Geoff Payne visited the makeshift memorial filled with letters, photos, and flowers outside the CasaSur hotel once more on Tuesday.
One of the highest-grossing live acts in the world, One Direction went on indefinite hiatus in 2016.
