Big Brother star quit her job amid depression before taking a chance on reality TV
Before launching her career in reality TV, a Big Brother star had depression that caused her to quit her job. Hanah Haji, a contestant on the most recent series that aired from October through November of last year, has shared the difficulties she encountered in preparation for her appearance on the well-known ITV show.
In an exclusive interview with The Mirror, Hannah shared: “I got so bored one time, I got bored and I was like, ‘ I want to apply for Big Brother because I think I had depression whilst working. Even my general practitioner claimed that I was suffering from depression and work stress. So I was like, I need something a bit different. ‘”
Reflecting on her journey, Hannah added: “I did go from working as an HR consultant for two and a half years, to then going into Big Brother. However, there was that middle ground where it was like, ‘ either I’m going back to do my master’s in social work or I just postpone that for a year and then after that go on into Big Brother, ‘ and it’s like once in a lifetime opportunity.
So I just proceeded and said, “Let me just message my university right now,” knowing that my first lecture at university was actually scheduled for the week I went into hiding. I then left my corporate job to pursue my master’s degree, and then I received a call from Big Brother informing me that “we want you.” “
During her time on the air, Hanah threatened to leave. Hanah went to the diary room to greet Big Brother after becoming enraged at producers sneaking the bare minimums into the house. I want to leave tonight. I object to such treatment. I never allow anyone else to treat me like this, nor do I treat myself this way.
Hannah added:” My stomach is growling. I feel sick and you lot aren’t feeding me – you’re giving me carbs, bread and s**t like that. I’m not a basic ration girl so I’d rather get my suitcase, now. I’m so serious, I’m not ok. I’ll leave tonight with my suitcase. You can bring housemates in here and tell them, ‘ have you heard Hanah’s stomach growl’, and they will say ‘ yes’.
On the clip that was shared to TikTok, one user commented: “I’m sorry but I’m the same way. On tv or not I need foooooddd”. Whilst another added: “I love her she is straight forward”. A third penned: “She’s the only reason I’m still watching big brother uk”, alongside laughing emoji’s.
After being left with only plain porridge as punishment for breaking nomination rules, Hannah previously joined a group of her housemates in a hunger strike. She told Big Brother, “I will end up starving myself. I will starve myself”. Hannah was the fourth finalist to be kicked out of the live show’s live finale after 41 days in the Big Brother house.
