BBC Strictly’s Dianne Buswell gives health update on her ‘poor dad’ after surgery

After regular check-ups revealed concerns with her father’s heart, the 35-year-old explained that the doctors were concerned.

Dianne Buswell has opened up about her father’s heart surgery after a ‘tough 18 months’. The Strictly Come Dancing star, 35, said that while her parent had been hospitalised, he was ‘up and walking around the ward like a champion’, a testament to his resilience.

“My poor dad has had a tough 18 months but in true Buswell style has shown strength and resilience,” Dianne told her 1.1million Instagram followers yesterday. “And my beautiful mum who has been the saviour in it all she is by his side 24/7 and has been a little trooper you are one of a kind mum.

“Love you both and I feel so lucky I was able to be here with you both.” Although Dianne lives near Brighton in the UK with her boyfriend, Joe Sugg, she has recently been stuck in Perth, Australia, amidst a chaotic period with family events and issues.

Dianne explained that her flight home had been canceled three times on the podcast she hosted with Chris McCausland’s Winning Isn’t Everything episode from yesterday. She is currently staying near her father in a hotel that is opposite the hospital.

She said, “My flight has been changed three times to get home, ok.” And I have been [on my vacation] in such a short amount of time… I’ve attended weddings, funerals, christenings, intensive care units, and other events, and I’ve been nominated for a BAFTA…

After frequent heart checks revealed concerns with his heart, Dianne’s father was taken to the hospital for open-heart surgery. This was a blockage in the main artery, which, according to additional tests, could be fatal if left untreated.

She continued, “It’s a blessing in disguise, it’s one of those things that you believe was completely discovered just after he was diagnosed with cancer.” You know, he still needs to go through his check-ups because of all these scans.

They simply said, “I think you might want to go check your heart out because there’s something there that we can see,” and that’s just one of those. Anyway, the next time he has an appointment, I accompany him, and the next time they thought they need to take him to Perth, Chris, in a sort of air ambulance.
