Former UK ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson was arrested and questioned for 9 hours over alleged misconduct linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Emails suggest he shared sensitive government information. He denies wrongdoing.
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested 10 suspects belonging to a kidnapping syndicate and recovered a ransom from them.
The arrest was carried out on Monday 23rd, February, 2026, by a combined operation between the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Section and visiting PMF personnel approved and deployed to Ondo State as operational support.
The spokesperson of the Command, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists in Akure on Tuesday.
He noted that the operatives swiftly mobilised to locations along the Ondo Road axis of Akure city, based on credible and actionable intelligence.

“The intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of ten suspects believed to be connected to the kidnapping syndicate. All the suspects apprehended are: Muritala Muhammed (aged;22), Mustapha Adamu (aged;20), Usman Ibrahim (aged;25), Amisu Aruna (aged;28), Asiru Abdulasis (aged;20), Abduliu Sanni (aged;22), Ibrahim Suraju (aged;20), Noah Isiaku (aged;20), Abdulahi Suraju (aged;20), and Arabi Hamet (aged;18),” the statement read.
According to Jimoh, a motorcycle, as well as some cash, suspected to be ransom money, were recovered from the Suspects.
“During the operation, their operational motorcycle and ransom money were recovered from the suspects. Notably, part of the recovered cash comprised burnt currency notes, which are currently being documented as exhibits in the ongoing investigation,” Jimoh said.
He noted that the suspects have made useful confessional statements of their involvement in the crime, while the exhibits recovered are currently being processed for comprehensive investigation and further necessary action.
The police spokesperson gave assurance that the command is working towards identifying and apprehending other accomplices who may still be at large.
Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, urged communities across the state to organise vigilante groups to complement the efforts of the police and other security agencies.
England captain Leah Williamson says she would “never rule out” strike action to get players’ messaging across to governing bodies about schedule concerns.
Williamson, 28, missed five months with injury following England’s victory at Euro 2025 as she recovered from knee surgery.
She returned to action at the start of December, helping Arsenal win the Women’s Champions Cup in February, and was selected for this month’s World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking before England’s game against Ukraine on Tuesday, 3 March (17:00 GMT kick-off), Williamson was asked about the potential causes of injury and, hypothetically, if the players would be willing to strike to get governing bodies’ attentions.
“We’ll never know for sure but I don’t think people argue against the scheduling for fun. There’s reasons behind it,” said Williamson.
“If you listen to the players’ group, of course we want to play all the time, but the more successful you are – and this team has been very successful – then the less rest you have and the higher risk of injury there is. It’s an accumulation.
“The players, I’m sure, would love to just turn up and play football, but we use our voice and we try to get involved in conversations with the hierarchy so that they at least have our perspective. Whether they listen to it or not, is out of our control.”
Players’ union FifPro released a report in November saying that last year was the first time since it started collecting data in 2020 that the top 15 players in the world had all played 50 games or more in a season.
England midfielder Keira Walsh previously urged governing bodies to “listen to the players” about the congested fixture schedule.
Asked whether Williamson would consider more drastic action, such as players striking, she said: “I’ve not had any conversations about this right now, but if a group of people don’t feel like they’re getting listened to, then history suggests that’s the only way they can be heard.
“I would never take it off the table. I don’t think that’s where we are now. I think we’re still in a place where we can collaborate, listen and educate.”
Williamson also revealed players have been “forthcoming” with providing stakeholders with training load and female health data.
“It’s mainly around the rest periods and trying to get all governing bodies to align. It always sounds like we’re asking for a holiday, but that’s not the case,” she added.
“I’m a professional footballer and part of my job is also to rest, which I’m encouraged to do so by my managers and the environments we play in.

A day after it withdrew the three-count charge filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Federal Government has filed a fresh 12-count charge against Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
Channels Television obtained a copy of the charge sheet dated February 24th, 2026, and signed by the Director of Public Prosecution, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN).
In the charge filed before the FCT High Court sitting in Abuja, Ozekhome and Ponfa Useni, also known as Tali Shani, are listed as the defendants in the criminal suit.
In the fresh count, Ozekhome, Ponfa Useni (Aka Tali Shani) and the General Jeremiah Useni now deceased allegedly conspired in the year 2020 to procure a false Nigerian passport in the name of Tali Shani with the intent of using same to support their claim to a property, in the United Kingdom, and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 96 of the Penal Code Law 2009 and punishable under section 364 of the same Law.

Celtic have been unsuccessful in their appeal against the red card shown to Auston Trusty in their Scottish Premiership defeat by Hibernian, with the defender now to serve a three-match ban.
However, St Mirren were successful in challenging Richard King’s sending off in Saturday’s loss to Motherwell and the centre-back has had his suspension overturned.
Trusty, 27, was dismissed with the score 1-1 at Celtic Park following an incident with Hibs’ Jamie McGrath as the pair jostled at a corner. The defending champions lost 2-1.

Violent conduct carries an automatic two-match suspension but Trusty incurred an additional one-match ban, having previously been sent off in the competition this season.
However, Trusty will be available for the Scottish Cup quarter-final away to Rangers on 8 March.
The Scottish FA said in relation to the Trusty decision: “Payment of £650 Appeal Deposit to be made within 30 days.”
Speaking after full-time on Sunday, Celtic boss Martin O’Neill said “I’ve just had a word with the referee. He said he was going to just have a word with the two players then VAR intervened and said it was violent conduct.

St Mirren defender King, 24, was sent off in his side’s 5-0 defeat by Motherwell in Paisley on Saturday. With his team trailing 3-0, the centre-back was involved in an incident with Callum Slattery and the Motherwell player fell to the ground.
Referee Calum Scott did not see the incident, issuing the red card on the advice of his assistant, and VAR did not intervene to ask him to review footage.
