Less than a year after joining Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappe claims he is not angry with Paris St-Germain’s Champions League victory.
Before joining Madrid on a free transfer in July 2024, the forward left PSG as the club’s top goalscorer but was unable to top European football’s elite club competition after seven seasons with the French giants.
PSG won their first Champions League title on May 31st by defeating Inter Milan 5-0.
My relationship with PSG was over, I stayed put, and I didn’t leave too soon. Mbappe, who scored 256 goals for PSG, said, “I am not bitter, I had reached the end of the road.”
Mbappe said at a press conference on Saturday before France’s Nations League third-place match against Germany that he had to face: “I tried everything, and it had to happen without me.
Without me, PSG’s Champions League victory wouldn’t have any impact. They deserved it, I believe, and I was pleased.
They have endured a lot of struggle for years. I’ve also played there and participated in every Paris Champions League match after winning the first one.
They are “Europe’s best team,” they claim. A team winning a major final without a win is something I can recall.
Following a defeat by Bayern Munich in the 2020 final, Mbappe’s sonhood club won the Champions League title closest to achieving that feat.
For the first time in four years, Mbappe’s Madrid, who were defeated by Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final last year, ended the campaign without a trophy.
Hannah Klugman, a teen, lost in the girls’ singles final to become the first Briton to win a French Open junior title in almost 50 years.
Lilli Tagger, an Austrian teenager, defeated the 16-year-old to reach her first junior Grand Slam singles final, 6-2 6-0.
Klugman, who is 13th overall in the world junior rankings, was hoping to acquiesce to British tennis champion Michelle Tyler, who won the 1976 French Open women’s title.
An emotional Klugman expressed his pride in his long-awaited week.
Klugman’s performances in Paris showed her incredible potential despite her defeat.
Prior to a two-month period of practice on the surface earlier this year, including a few days at Rafael Nadal’s Spanish academy, the London-born player had little experience.
Klugman said Nadal, a 14-time French Open men’s champion, gave her more faith after her semi-final victory.
Klugman gained more recognition when she won the prestigious Orange Bowl junior championships in Florida in 2023 as a 14-year-old.
Coco Gauff, a French Open champion, and Chris Evert, Caroline Wozniacki, and Bianca Andreescu, Grand Slam winners in the past, are just a few examples.
Klugman also lost the 2023 Wimbledon and the Australian Open trophy games this year, defeating both of her previous Grand Slam doubles victories.
However, Tagger’s defeat, which came close to matching her junior standing of 47th, completed a hat-trick of defeats.
Klugman had to fight in both quarter-final and semi-final victories, but she couldn’t do it against Tagger.
Tagger’s elegant one-handed backhand, an increasingly uncommon sight, was effective from the beginning.
In the opening set’s first and seventh games, Klugman had break points, but her own serve was dropped in the fourth game, which was decisive.
At her first chance, Tagger edged the high-quality baseline exchanges, which continued into the second set.
Klugman’s confidence sagged right away, and it started to wane.

After declining offers from participating teams, Portugal’s captain Cristiano Ronaldo has declared he will not compete in the upcoming Club World Cup.
At the end of June, the 40-year-old has an expired contract with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
After Al-Nassr failed to qualify for the World Cup, Fifa president Gianni Infantino suggested Ronaldo join a team that would compete in the competition.
Ronaldo declared, “I won’t be at the Club World Cup.”
Following Al-Nassr’s final league game of the year in May, Ronaldo announced on social media that “the chapter is over.” This sparked rumors that he was ready to move.
However, sources close to Ronaldo’s deal’ extension have assured BBC Sport.
Ronaldo said it was “almost final” before Portugal’s Nations League final against Spain on Sunday (20:00 BST).
After his contract with Manchester United expired, the striker left and joined Al-Nassr in 2023.
In his 111 starts for the club, he has scored 99 goals, 35 of which came in the previous term’s 41 games.
Sophie Ecclestone, the England spinner, will “prioritize her wellbeing” while managing a quad injury.
Under new coach Charlotte Edwards, Ecclestone, 26, was ruled out of England’s first squad because of her knee injury.
In February, she represented the UP Warriorz in India’s Women’s Premier League, but she missed Lancashire’s opening domestic competition by missing two months of play.
The left-arm spinner has since played six T20s and two one-day games for her country, but the quad issue prevented them from playing against Hampshire on Tuesday.
Ecclestone, who is the world’s number one-ranked ODI bowler, will still be available for England’s white-ball series against India, which kicks off on June 28 at Trent Bridge.
Sophie has been taking care of her quad niggle for the past week, but more importantly, she wants to take a break from cricket for a short while and look after herself, according to Edwards.
“We completely support that,” Sophie should be able to participate in the India series, but Sophie’s happiness is currently what matters most to her.
England argued that Ecclestone’s absence from the West Indies squad was not related to the controversy that had dominated an awful Ashes tour of Australia earlier this year.
Following her criticism of England’s fitness during the T20 World Cup in November, Ecclestone refused to participate in a TV interview conducted by former team-mate Alex Hartley during their 16-0 series defeat.
England have comfortably defeated West Indies, winning both the one-day international and the T20 series, but they will likely face a much tougher challenge from India, who will host the 50-over World Cup at the end of September.
During the final ODI against the West Indies in Taunton, Hartley remarked, “Mental health is so important.”

Currently from £66.40 for 50ml from Debenhams (usual price £83)
Inspired by espresso with a twist of lemon(Image: Debenhams)
The fashion house goes well and truly back to its Mediterranean roots with this sultry scent. Inspired by the Sicilian tradition of adding a twist of lemon to your daily espresso as you sit in a sunlit town square watching the world go by, it balances rich and spicy coffee notes with zesty citruses and earthy patchouli.
Davidoff Cool Elixir Parfum
Currently from £33.60 for 30ml from Debenhams (usual price £42)
A new twist on a classic(Image: Debenhams)
An intense new twist on a classic, this parfum gives Davidoff’s trademark oceanic notes a decidedly more exotic spin with notes of lavandin and rose oxide, plus a rich oud base. Don’t let these floral-sounding ingredients confuse you; this is a take on the ‘fougère’ fragrance family, traditionally men’s scents, and one that’s full of character.

Rich and warm yet with universal appeal, it’s guaranteed to delight.

An energetic and youthful scent(Image: Debenhams)
This bottle from Parisian fashion house Cerruti 1881 looks like something from the Da Vinci Code, and you even need to complete a little puzzle to open it (the ‘V’ needs to be lined up with the ‘1881’ to open the lid). Meaning ‘alive’, inside you’re rewarded with an energetic and youthful scent, with hints of ginger, apple, sesame and saffron.
MESSI Eau De Parfum
From £44 for 100ml from The Fragrance Shop
One for football fans(Image: The Fragrance Shop)
Want to know what, arguably, the greatest footballer of all time smells like? Apparently it’s a combination of fresh cardamom, wild cypress, leather (leather football boots, perhaps…?) and vanilla bean, if the soccer superstar’s new fragrance is any indication. Like the great man himself, it’s subtle and understated, a great gym bag option or everyday spritz.
Barbour Coastal For Him Intense Eau De Parfum
From £72 for 100ml from The Fragrance Shop
One from the country clothing brand(Image: The Fragrance Shop)
Barbour’s classic country gent has taken a bracing walk along the blustery British coastline – the rugged Northumberland coast, to be specific – to inspire this fragrance, with refreshing notes of bergamot, pink pepper and clary sage to blow away the cobwebs, combined with sea-sprayed marine accords, washed up sandalwood and a comforting warmth from tonka.
Rabanne Million Gold Elixir Eau De Parfum
From £85 for 50ml from Boots
Million Gold Elixir Eau De Parfum by Rabanne(Image: Boots)
Shopping for a dad with expensive tastes? An actual gold bar might be out of the question, but this new Rabanne EDP is the olfactory equivalent. Sensual, confident and opulent, it’s centred around vanilla – an unusual find in men’s scents – which gives it a warm decadence. Combined with zingy bergamot and spicy cardamom, it’s a confidence boost with every spritz.
Issey Mayake L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Eau de Parfum
Currently from £51.20 for 40ml from Debenhams (usual price £64)
Inspired by the sea(Image: Debenhams)
No one does aquatic fragrances quite as well as Issey Mayake, and this newest, intense iteration is inspired by the mysterious ocean depths. Sichuan pepper wakes up your senses upon first sniff like a splash of water to the face, complemented by invigorating notes of lemon and balsam fir, and a base of cedarwood. It’s elegant freshness in a bottle.
Calvin Klein Man Eau de Toilette
Currently £28 for 100ml from Boots (usual price £70)
Described by the brand as ‘a fragrance for modern CK men who appreciate the rich, happy simplicity of a minimalist lifestyle’(Image: Boots)
At under £30 and less than half its usual RRP, this is an absolute bargain, with shoppers describing it as having a ‘nice classy smell, not too overpowering, good for any occasion’ and calling it a “lovely aftershave. I bought it based on the description and ingredient notes and it was very accurate. Great value sale purchase.”
Dior Sauvage Elixir
From £143 for 60ml from Dior
Dior’s popular Sauvage scent(Image: DIOR )
Dior Sauvage is a pretty iconic men’s cologne and is one of those you can recognise instantly. With fresh bergamot and warm, woody notes, it’s confident without being overpowering, ideal for dads who like to smell good (and know it). Out of all of its versions, Elixir is our favourite.
