Aubrey Plaza to present Golden Globes 2025 – days after Jeff Baena’s death
After her husband Jeff Baena passed away, Aubrey Plaza will soon be back at work.
When an assistant found Jeff at his Los Angeles home on Friday, he passed away without responding. Around 10:30 am on January 3, LA firefighters and law enforcement arrived at his home, and he was later declared dead. A family spokesman, including Jeff’s wife Aubrey, told the Mirror that the couple had been devastated by the heartbreaking news and that no one knew what had happened, but they had requested that they have some time to grieve privately.
The Dirty Grandpa actress, 40, is set to appear at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night. She will be joined by co-presenters including Salma Hayek, Anya Taylor-Joy and Anthony Ramos. Following Jeff’s passing, is it still unknown whether Aubrey has decided to step down from her presenting duties?
The romance between Baena and Plaza began in 2011 with her audition for the film Life After Beth, which marked the beginning of a working relationship that included both them working on projects like Joshy (2016) and Horse Girl (2020). After ten years of dating, Baena and I suddenly fell asleep in one knee in December 2021.
Keeping it hush-hush, they tied the knot quietly and away from the public eye. In a nod to her beau on Instagram, Plaza referred to Baena as her “husband” in May 2021 while beaming with pride over their joint project Spin Me Round. As she revealed they were working on Spin Me Round, she exclaimed, “So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to Italy and causes some more trouble. They have largely stayed silent throughout their relationship, avoiding public view of their romantic relationship, and making the decision to end their relationship.
Jeff, a Miami native, later became a New Yorker to chase his dream at film school, ultimately setting his sights on becoming a filmmaker in Los Angeles. Along with his now-wife, he made a name for himself as a director with Life After Beth.
Reflecting on his directing debut in a 2014 interview with Seensome, Baena confessed: “It’s all I ever want to do, it felt really comfortable and fun. I’ve been a writer for twelve years, and it always served as a means to an end. I never wanted to be a writer, but I also wanted to be a director, so it was what I wanted to do.
