Aston Villa sign PSG midfielder Asensio on loan

At the end of the season, Aston Villa will loaned Spain’s Marco Asensio from Paris St-Germain until the end of the season.

Villa has signed Andres Garcia, Marcus Rashford, Donyell Malen, and Marcus Rashford, as their fourth signings for the winter transfer window.

Villa will reportedly cover the 29-year-old’s wages but do not have an option to make the move permanent.

Since leaving Real Madrid in the summer of 2023, Asensio has seven goals in 47 appearances for PSG.

He helped the team win the French championship last year, but he has only made eight league starts this year.

Additionally, he was a member of Spain’s 2023 World Cup winning team.

After conceding 2-0 to Wolves on Saturday, Villa boss Unai Emery said his team needed new players. This leaves Villa eighth in the Premier League.

Jhon Duran, a Colombia international, was sold to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr for about £71 million, and Diego Carlos, a centre-back, to Fenerbahce for about £8.45 million.

Samuel Iling-Junior, 21, a 21-year-old winger, was later loaned to Middlesbrough for the rest of the season earlier on Monday.

Villa completed the loan signing of Manchester United forward Rashford, 27 – which includes an option to buy for £40m – on Sunday.

Netherlands forward Malen, 26, joined Villa for £19m from Borussia Dortmund three weeks ago, while Spanish full-back Garcia, 21, joined from Levante for a reported fee of £6m with a further £1m in add-ons.

In the fourth round of the FA Cup, Asensio could make his Villa debut against Tottenham on Sunday (17:35 GMT), a game that will be streamed on BBC One and iPlayer.

This month, Villa gave versatility attackers a chance, and they have one in Asensio.

He, Rashford, and Malen can all play in the front three, complementing Ollie Watkins with excellent forward options.

Emery consistently extracts the best from players, and Morgan Rogers has excelled since joining from Middlesbrough a year ago and Morgan Rogers has become a regular in his role.
