Army Holds Full Military Funeral For Late Mascot Akawala
Sgt Dalet Danfari Akawala, the late Mascot, was the subject of a regimental funeral service at the Division Headquarters Complex in Kawo, Kaduna State, according to the 1st Division of the Nigerian Army.
Major General Mayirenso Saraso, the commander of Operation Fansan Yanma and the General Officer Commanding One Division, served as the guest of honor at the solemn funeral.
Colonel Akabike emphasized the value of honoring the Mascot’s life and service in his speech, citing its significance as a key component of the Division’s rich cultural heritage and tradition.

“Late Sgt. Dalet Danfari Akawala, who embodies the spirit of courage and resilience, dedicated himself to the Division.” He said, “Today’s ceremony is our way to pay the last respect to a companion who gave the Division pride and identity.”
The entire Stallion family and the Nigerian Army expressed regret over the loss, and Colonel Akabike expressed his condolences.
He praised the dignitaries and sympathisers who attended the ceremony. Prayers were offered for a hardworking, agile, and dedicated replacement for the late Sgt Akawala.
Sgt. Farin Doki, the Division’s pioneer Mascot, was referred to as a direct descendant during the funeral oration. He passed away in 2011 at the age of 84.
After Sgt Farin Doki’s death, the Division acquired a new mascot, Sgt Danfari Akawala, who served until its death in 2014.
Sgt Danfari Akawala’s foal, Sgt Dalet, succeeded its father as the Division’s Mascot on January 1, 2015 and faithfully served until its demise on January 24, 2025.
