Another Niger State Tanker Explosion: Latest Tragedy Fuels Push for Enhanced Safety Protocols

Sabon Wuse in the Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State was ravaged by a catastrophic gas explosion, leaving businesses inflicting significant losses.

The blast, which occurred on Saturday night, ravaged several vehicles, shops, and foodstuffs when a gas tanker exploded while offloading at a local filling station, as reported by Persecondnews.

No lives were lost, but extensive damage was caused, according to Abdullahi Baba-Arah, director general of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).

Witnesses reported that the explosion sent shockwaves through the community, causing panic among residents.

“The fire was so strong that different parts of the town could see its flames.” People ran out of their homes in fear”, said Musa Aliyu, a resident of Sabon Wuse.

At least 96 people died and 69 others were hurt in a devastating petrol tanker explosion that took place on January 18 in the Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

A tanker carrying gasoline collided, and a second tanker was brought in to transport the contents.

Unfortunately, residents were consumed while scooping petrol when the scene.

Baba-Arah confirmed the death toll and injury count, saying a mass burial was conducted for the victims, with 20 shops also burnt in the fire.

Persecondnews points out that there have recently been numerous petrol tanker explosions in Nigeria.
