Amy Dowden invites Strictly co-star to move in with her after devastating blow
As they prepare for the reborn UK tour, Strictly Come Dancing expert Amy Dowden is renting space from Carlos Gu in her home.
The 34-year-old, with the help of builders, has been busy converting space in her Midlands abode into Carlos’ bedroom after the pair spent Christmas together.
She explained why the pair are performing on stage together while discussing her Strictly hiccup and why she thinks Carlos is ideal. Same height as my husband, who was my dance partner. It is important. “
Both Amy and Carlos both feel a connection with the tour’s title. After a heartbreaking battle with stage three breast cancer, the former claims to feel “reborn.”
The Welsh beauty has since made a joyful return to dancing after tests in February revealed “no evidence of disease.”
She shared with The Guardian: “We both feel reborn. He and I met after we moved to the UK and he finally realized how true to himself we are.
Being gay, he is accepted in the UK, and he can now wear whatever he wants in style. He used to hold back. We’ve both got a strong story to tell. “
The new besties decided to spend their final two Christmas seasons together after forming a special bond through dance.
Recently discussing his time with Amy and her family over the festive season, he told BBC Radio Manchester: “In China, we don’t really spend Christmas. In the past three years, I wasn’t really spending because I didn’t really understand how Christmas [is] like here.
“But then Amy invited me last year, I said ‘definitely’ and then the family – we spent five days together. And her mum, her dad and her sister, it’s just like family to me. We were playing the games, it was like a proper, best Christmas I ever had. “
Christmas was no doubt the pick-me-up each of them needed following last year’s series of Strictly.
Carlos and Amy’s time with JB Gill were cut short because she collapsed backstage after getting injured in week six, and Carlos found himself without a dance partner for the first time in two years.
In her absence, Lauren Oakley stepped in to train the JLS star and together, they made it to the final.
Amy claims that she felt “devastated” after leaving the competition, and that she understood why it was necessary.
Feeling more positive about the year ahead, she added: “Dance is my happy place. And I’m hoping Strictly will let me back in the fall of 2014.
I still haven’t experienced the year of being back dancing and feeling truly like Amy again after having to retire this year. “
