Ruben Amorim has warned that Manchester United’s season will continue to be a “rollercoaster” ride as players learn to adapt to his system following a dramatic 3-1 win against Southampton.
Before Amad Diallo scored a stunning 12-minute hat-trick to turn things around at Premier League basement club Southampton, the game was on the verge of a shock victory at Old Trafford on Thursday.
It followed a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Liverpool and a morale-boosting FA Cup win against Arsenal.
Prior to the run-of six defeats in eight games, Amorim had previously warned that a “storm will come” before taking over from Erik ten Hag, who had been fired in November.
And after a subpar performance against the struggling Saints, the Portuguese boss, 39, predicted more turbulence.
Despite the win United, who host Brighton on Sunday, are still languishing in 12th place in the Premier League table.
“I think it’s going to be hard until the end of the season,” Amorim said. “It’s going to be a little bit that rollercoaster. Then, it depends on how long you have to train. We still compete in the FA Cup and play UEFA games in the Europa League.
Next, it’s important to keep an eye on the Scottish giants Rangers’ game against Old Trafford on Thursday in order to win and stay in the top eight. ”
He added: “We had seven trainings together in 14, 15 games. We must continue to try to win, even though it’s very difficult. Sometimes playing good, sometimes playing bad. ”

Amorim acknowledged that his team had struggled against Southampton and that several players were tired, including Manuel Ugarte, whose own goal late in the first half gave the visitors the lead.
“You (the media) are focused on what I said about Ugarte,” he said.
Despite doing a fantastic job against Liverpool, Ugarte was exhausted.
“If you look at the game against Arsenal, maybe Ugarte and Bruno (Fernandes) were the best players against Liverpool.
“They didn’t play against Newcastle. All Premier League players, in my opinion, do this. ”
