Allied Air’s Crashed Aircraft Was Going To Pick Up CBN’s Cargo – NSIB

The Central Bank of Nigeria was supposed to pick up cargo from the crash-landed Allied Air Boeing 737-400 Freighter on December 11, 2024, according to Nigeria’s Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).

About two months after the bureau launched an investigation into the incident, the bureau stated this in a preliminary report released on Saturday.

A Boeing 737-400F aircraft with the nationality and registration numbers 5N-JRT, operated by Allied Air Limited, took off on a positioning mission on December 11 to pick up cargo for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the report states.

According to the report, the aircraft took off from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 09: 11 and began its descent into Abuja at 09: 44.

“The aircraft had left Douala earlier in the morning. The aircraft was scheduled for six sectors: Lagos-Abuja, Abuja-Sokoto, Sokoto-Abuja, Abuja-Yola, Yola-Abuja and Abuja-Lagos, with the same flight crew”.

NSIB confirmed that “the structural integrity of the cabin and cockpit remained intact despite the fact that all occupants escaped unharmed.” Without any injuries, all occupants safely exited the forward main door.

It also weighed in on the flight crew and aircraft status, saying, “both the Captain and First Officer held valid licenses and medical certificates. Since November 1, 2024, the aircraft has made 101 landings, 85 of which have been “Flaps 15” and have a current Certificate of Airworthiness.

It made the observation that the incident was not caused by the circumstances at the time.
