Alleged ₦90m Fraud: Court Grants Ex-NHIS Boss Yusuf ₦5m Bail

Usman Yusuf, former executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, was bailed in the amount of $5 million and two sureties by Justice Chinyere Nwecheonwu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kuje, Abuja.

Justice Nwecheonwu stated that the two sureties must provide valid identification, verification of their addresses, and proof of means of livelihood, whether in business or civil service, as well as valid identification, while delivering the bail terms.

Due to the Sallah break, which occurs within that time frame, the case was initially adjourned to April 3.

The court subsequently adjourned the case to May 15, 2025 for trial.

Yusuf is facing a five-count charge of alleged fraud involving the sum of ₦90, 439, 178.

Between 2016 and 2017, he is accused of using his office to use unlawful advantages. Additionally, there are allegations that contracts were awarded without following appropriate procurement practices.

One of the allegations involves Yusuf ordering the purchase of a car at an exorbitant price of 49, 197, or 750, far more than the $30, 000, 000 budgeted amount.

Additionally, he allegedly awarded a ₦10.1 million training contract to a foundation linked to him, with only half of the intended beneficiaries participating in the programme.

Further, Yusuf is accused of bridging industry standards by awarding a $ 17.5 million contract for a media consulting firm to his nephew.
