Comedian Alan Carr revealed his dating difficulties following Paul Drayton’s divorce.
The couple ended their 13-year relationship in 2022 after Paul’s legal issues and struggles with alcoholism. Alan, 48, claimed that because of his fame and fear of being recognized on dating apps, dating is difficult for him.
He also raised concerns that potential partners are more interested in his celebrity status than his personality. He told Paloma Faith, in her podcast, Mad, Sad &, Bad: “I’m sort of tentatively putting my toe back in the dating thing but my problem is I’ve s*****d myself off so much I’ve started to believe my own act.
There are now people who are interested in me, and I’m like, “Oh no, I have to have my glasses and fat back.” But then I realize that you’re telling them your material is worth it because they’re interested in you and that’s what I’m doing.

Paloma, who is a good friend of Alan, told him:” It’s sad for me to hear you put yourself down like that because there are so few people like you in this world who are this magnetic, this funny, this intelligent, and all the stuff you talk about and you putting yourself down that’s a shield isn’t it? “
Alan then responded:” Yeah of course it is, it’s a shield and stuff but I mean I’m learning to get over that now and say ‘ Alan take a compliment’. Someone said, “Thank you, thank you,” when someone compliments you.
Despite these difficulties, Alan is determined to find love once more and concentrates on his comedic career. He is currently on tour with his new stand-up show, Regional Trinket, where he discusses his experiences with divorce and dating. Back in 2023, Alan said his ex-husband’s addiction” just got too much “to deal with before they separated.
After having wild nights out, Alan claimed to have previously been unsure whether he was an alcoholic himself. He mentioned a time when he ransacked his ex and ransacked their hotel room while in Palm Springs, but he awoke unharmed.

Talking about his divorce, Alan told The Guardian:” You come out and you think, ‘ Oh, I’m happy now, taking a bit more control of my life’. “Alan said that he now knows he was not an alcoholic, as he added:” I know now that I’m not]an alcoholic] and seeing]alcoholism] first-hand, I realise I was nowhere near becoming one. “
At the time, Paul posted on his own Instagram page that he was in rehab for alcoholism, after a” challenging couple of years ‘ “which saw him plead guilty in November 2021 to a drink-driving charge.
After 13 years of marriage and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce their separation. They have decided to divorce and separate themselves after making the difficult decision to do so informally and amicably. At this sensitive time, we ask that their privacy is respected.
