Airstrike: Zamfara Govt Commends Air Force, Consoles Families Of Civilian Casualties
The governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has commended the Nigerian military’s efforts in the renewed onslaught against bandits in the state.
In a successful airstrike over the weekend, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) successfully targeted bandits who were encroaching on the local government areas of Zurmi and Maradun.
However, about 16 civilians were mistakenly killed during the airstrike by the military.

Sulaiman Bala Idris, the spokesperson for the Zamfara Governor, expressed condolences to the families of the civilian casualties who were killed in the airstrike at Tungar Kara in Zurmi LGA in a statement released on Sunday in Gusau.
The statement made it clear that the civilian casualties were local vigilantes who had been eluded by Gidan Makera’s Boko district LGA’s Boko district.
The Air Component of Operation Fansar Yamma conducted numerous accurate strikes over the weekend in troubled Maradun and Zurmi local government areas, according to the statement.
The military’s intervention has significantly reduced the bandits’ ability to operate and demonstrated the Nigeria Air Force’s commitment to carrying out its constitutional duties of protecting civilians and safeguarding the people’s lives and property.
We as a responsible government can assure the Zamfara State government’s entire population that it will continue to support the progress made in the fight against banditry and related criminal activity. The state and federal security agencies’ concerted efforts have recently had positive outcomes, according to recent success.
In light of these accomplishments, the state government reiterates its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force and other security forces with all necessary funding to sustain their operations and ensure state stability.
In the spirit of a comprehensive approach to security and achieving the ultimate goal of restoring normalcy to all parts of the state, we will continue to offer support to improve intelligence sharing, provide logistics, and strengthen community engagement.
Regrettably, some Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) members and neighborhood vigilantes were also impacted by the Tungar Kara operation, which led to the loss of lives. We ask that Jannah be given to Almighty Allah.
The state government offers its condolences to the families of the fallen JTF personnel and promises them that their sacrifices will be remembered. The government will assist the families who have lost loved ones in need.
