Aberdeen buy Latvia captain Tobers from Grasshoppers
For an undisclosed sum, Aberdeen has signed Latvian Grasshopper Club Zurich’s Kristers Tobers.
The 24-year-old centre-back, who moves to Pittodrie on a three-and-a-half-year deal, has 37 caps and brings “real leadership qualities”, according to manager Jimmy Thelin.
We had to work extremely hard to get Kristers here, so we’re really pleased to have him accepted.
He believes in what we are trying to build and how competitive we want to be both domestically and internationally, despite the fact that it has taken a lot of work behind the scenes over the past few months.
After signing Danish winger Jeppe Okkels on loan from Preston, Tobers becomes the club’s second signing in the January transfer window.
Before moving to Swiss Super League side Grasshoppers in the summer of 2023, Tobers made 44 appearances while playing for Polish side Lechia Gdansk for three and a half years.
